Based on what Spencer said, why don't he go manage England. Since this team is a failure, why bother getting a good manager? He can go be the manager since they are destined not to win anyway.

I think a more pertinent question than whether or not to rid the team of Southgate is to ask what manager is out there who could take over and would guarantee victories. Slim pickings.
Rory is right. I do think he was the best man for 2018 as after 2014 and 2016 we did need a manager to 'lift our spirits' as such but come 2020 the FA should've seen the opportunity Euro 2020 presented England and brought in a top manager to bring it home

I think southgate is getting over looked here. Firstly may i say in 2018 nobody expected us to get to the semi finals. And we got there. I dont think many people thought we would reach the Euros final either. And I think this is the first tournament where we can say we went out earlier then what most thought we would. But in my entire lifetime of watching England from where we’ve come from of not qualifying, getting knocked out in the the group stages with some of the best ever English players we will ever see. We now have a young talented squad with a constant churn of fresh new players getting added to the squad. The fact that nobody could agree who to play, who to take. We have so much depth in key areas. And we were even missing 1 or 2 players due to injuries who perhaps may have started. I think southgate has done something really important firstly the players love him and they now enjoy playing for England unlike what previous players stated. We have qualified, we have got out the groups and we have made it to the quarter finals of each tournament at least. We haven’t been knocked out to a much weaker side. Remember tournament football is just one game, you only get one chance theres not 38 games. There’s so much pressure to win especially for England. Loosing 2-1 to croatia, loosing on penalties to Italy may i add who didn’t qualify for this tournament. Loosing to France. In my opinion all we can ask for is to compete, and in tournament football we’ve made people believe that we can, the players believe, the fans believe and even other countries are putting England as one of the contenders. Years ago we were embarrassed time and time again. Southgate is the right man for the job, lets face it who else is going to take the England job, the amount of pressure your under, the abuse you get. Southgate he might not win us any trophies but he will consistently get us to the latter stages of the tournament and from there onwards youve always got a chance.
It must be incredibly maddening having to justify making a case for the bleeding obvious, all the while, being grinned at and condescended by three gormless, apologists, blessed with only a cursory knowledge of the game. I don't know how Rory does it.
Both are right and wrong, yes Southgate has got far but often with a favourable draw, at the same time Rory saying England has the best squad is a great exaggeration and explains why he sees Southgate as a failure because he overrated the England team as favourites to win.
When you think about it the England national team is just like Tottenham. A pretty good team that never wins anything.

Southgate taking them as far as they have isnt down to him it's down to the quality of players we have. Every match we've won is matches we'd win with any managers.
He is taking a world class team and making them a decent team due to his tactics. He's a failure. He's making England play the most boring football, he's benching the best players, TAA being benched for the biggest tournaments is insulting. Benching Rashford after him being best player all tournament is outrageous.

i am amused by this talk. England had by far the best team in the world cup and they crashed out like they did. They also got relegated to become a B team. Southgate needs to be replaced.

I’d love to challenge people like Rory to explain this notion of “best squad in the WC” because imo we overhype our players. If you look at our squad, who are the players that are consistently performing well at the highest level of football? I don’t mean playing for top teams but actually producing on an individual level (goals, assists, impact/importance in the team success). If you look at the top teams in the PL, a small percentage of them are players that qualify to play for England.
Why couldn’t we have this kind of debate about vaccines or lockdowns on tv ….? Hmm
Morale and losing is apparently enough for the job. He loses against any half decent side he comes against. The guy is a failed championship manager for a reason.
