When Alonso took over as Head Coach in October 2022, Bayer Leverkusen were in a dire state, sitting 17th in the Bundesliga and looking like an extremely disjointed squad. But just one year later and Alonso completely transformed the identity of the team, instilling some exciting principles based on attacking play and defensive intensity. As a result, Leverkusen finished the season with a spot in the Europa league, and this season, their start has been nothing short of spectacular, currently setting the standard in the Bundesliga.

  1. He arguably has the players at Liverpool to replicate this if he were to replace Slot in the summer which Has to be done!!!!

Frimpong & Wirtz both obviously know Alonso's tactical demands like the back of their hands. Kerkez can play the Grimaldo role easily imo. Playing Van Dijk in the Tah role as basically the sweeper, organising the defence would help save his legs from being pulled outwide as he would have a CB either side of him. Konate was signed because he had the pace & positional ability to cover Trent on the right when he was either pushed further forward or inverting into midfield. If he can agree a contract extension then Konate as the RCB of a back 3 suits him, whilst we would need to sign a left footer to play on the left of the back 3. Van De Ven or Schlotterbeck would be perfect, Gravenberch with a new CM partner is necessary especially someone who can break thr lines with their passing range as we've missed that since Trent left the club. A Wharton or Stiller would be ideal for that particular profile of midfielder. Szoboszlai & Wirtz as the 2 AM's/10's behind 1 of either Isak or Ekitike would complete the starting 11

  2. Xabi's Bayern Leverkusen made started watching football, not for the emotions but the way they play. It was beautiful, I was hoping he was gonna leave this identity at Madrid but Perez had other ideas
