How to Coach POSITIONS to kids (Football Coaches Guide)

In this video we help young players (6 & 7 year olds) how to stretch, squeeze and the basics of positioning for soccer matches. In this 90 Minute sessions we have filmed the main coaching points and team talks where the coach makes important intervention and progressions to the session.

*Apologies for the audio, there were other coaching sessions happening on the next pitches*

  1. Thanks for the video—it's perfect for my age group. Your clear explanation makes it easy to understand.

    Quick questions:

Considering defensive challenges and strong attackers, should I focus on the squeeze, defensive shape, and ball recovery in our half for the first week, and then cover "stretch" in the second?

In open play without involving the goalkeeper, "reset" or encourage width?

Can the "reset" apply when the deepest outfield player has possession, given our ongoing work on passing skills?

  2. Awesome job! Really great breaking things down to their level of understanding, need some coaching like that at our club here in Hawai’i, this is a tough age to coach and are smashing it bro! Love your vids keep it up! 🤙🏾

  3. Do you give the kids roles before this drill (defender, midfielder, attacker) or should just go to the nearest pancake when reseting? Thanks for a very good channel! just started to coach my daughters team U7. A lot of fun but sometimes it tests your patience 🙂

  4. This is so good. You’re giving me the words I need for 7-8 year old kiddos. I have learned a lot from your videos, as I don’t know much about soccer. I got thrusted into being coach, and I love it. It’s a lot of fun.
