The small teams are fucked because there’s no way they will last 8 games while consistently playing much better opponents. At least in the old format it was only 6 games and 3 opponents so they would have a chance to see the round of 16. Also the players on the bigger teams will be more tired and quality will be sacrificed at the altar of profit. It’s just sad and frustrating for fans while billionaire owners continue to profit on the backs of everyone else. Just so sad and enraging

A 32 team table where you only play 8 of them is just so bonkers on so many levels. Less jeopardy and tension, more pointless matches. The Champions League has finally lost its mystique as a result of financial prostitution.
What UEFA was trying to do was kill the Super League and make more money in the process.
When the usual whipping boys celtic are whipping teams 5-1 it can never be more competitive
Actually smaller teams have less chances in this format, longer season all togheter so having a good squad will be key, obvs bigger clubs have more money therefore better squads so smaller teams are being literally priced out

The beginning isn't existing as the group stage. With groups you could see how every match influences the final group result. Almost every match mattered.
Another thing is that onlt half the teams were progressing to the UCL playoffs. Now 2/3 plays further. We will get teams that lost half their games and still went through.
With recent results, smaller teams getting wins against bigger teams, I think I’m loving it. But time will tell, no?

Celtic will always get battered in champions League unless it's lesser teams such as Bratislava, rangers also as Liverpool battered them, tho rangers did beat an even better Dortmund side a couple seasons ago 4-2, when Bellingham and halland still playing for Dortmund tho halland was injured, we just can't compete with the big leagues teams, due to the money they get to what Scottish football receives from TV. It's not an even playing field for Scottish teams v English french Spanish Italian ect, but we still give most teams a going over. Including English Spanish Italian french ect, sides over the years.

The thing is it is unfair because the whole point of a league is to give clubs a chance across a lot of games. In 8 games it will be a struggle to get in the top 8.
We won't know how successful this new format is until the final. As a Villa fan, I'm loving it 😉
The real champions league was 30 years ago. Only The winner of the leagues and some of the runner ups even had to play a two legged qualifying game if they want to be in group stage. After it turned to three teams from each league, it would invariably turn to 5 and to 7 or 9. In our lifetime we would see a europe competition for 14-16th place in the league. Football is gone
