How A Team Of New Signings Are Shocking The Premier League

Sunderland currently sits 5th in the Premier League after a flying start to the season, despite having a squad with limited Premier League experience. In this week’s episode of The Breakdown,@JamesLawrenceAllcott takes a look at how their 15 new signings have transformed the team, why the central midfielders are playing like wingers, and how Granit Xhaka has become the key component making it all possible.

  1. Pleased for Granit, he was very consistent in a very disfunctional Arsenal team and helped medfielders like Ramsey, Guendouzi and Martinelli shine because of his tactical discipline and reliable midrange passing. Terrible perception of him by our fanbase was a crime.

  2. Sunderland fans never expect an easy ride but we're always hopeful. The mix of last's year's group and the new signings is working well. Most of our goals have come from last year's lads like Isidor etc. If we can keep the amazing work rate and committment we'll do alright this year

  3. Granit Xhaka is an outstanding player. He was never appreciated at Arsenal. He was probably the most important player in that Alonso leverkusen team that went unbeaten alongside writz. I am not surprised he is making a newly promoted Sunderland looking like a team worthy of playing in Europe. As a united fan I just hope they don't cook us this weekend.

  4. A tactically breakdown is interesting, but I really want to know how it is possible for a squad with so much turnover can compete so well. You did not actually answer that question. Can it be as simple as “Granit Xhaka?” I doubt it. Forrest had a similar squad refresh three seasons ago.

  5. Think Sunderland ve been remarkable so far,but I believe their fixtures have been favorable so far. Will wait to see how they fair against the top six- eight, and see if the momentum is still there.
