  1. There have always been fall feasts, but thanksgiving wasn't really celebrated in the United States until Abraham Lincoln made it a holiday in 1863 to help unite Americans.

  2. How in gods name do you have an American husband and not know what thanksgiving is?…..

Like seriously has she made any attempt at all to understand her partners culture 😭

  3. It goes back to 1621, it’s a day for family friends and gratitude that was shared between English colonists and the Wamponoag people. The celebrations often involve a large meal , charitable acts and reflection on personal and community blessings.

  4. It's commemorating the generosity of the indigenous Americans who opened they're doors to the pilgrims(White Americans) who then turned around and took them all out(💀). What a way to thank them.

  5. Dear Europe….. Thanksgiving is a holiday that's celebrated by Americans commemorating the day when the pilgrims and the indigenous people broke bread and joined together and had dinner to only show unity. So it's understandable that Europeans do not know what this holiday really means.

  6. It's a celebration of the Americans using the natives for food and resources to help the yanks survive the winter and then they immediately starting slaughtering the natives once they were no longer useful. The Americans like to pretend it's all sweetness and nice though. Like all things Americans say and do it's a lie and grossly glossed over to make the yanks look like they didn't literally try to wipe all the native Americans out. That's called genocide. Remember people if the Americans do it then it's ok but if anyone else does it then it's evil!

  7. It’s the day Europeans invited native Americans to a party for them drunk and killed them all. Which started the English invasion (later becoming what we now know today as USA)

  8. The darker origins of Thanksgiving:
Some early colonial “Thanksgiving” days weren’t about harvest at all, but about celebrating victories after killing large numbers of Indigenous people.
The most cited example is the Mystic Massacre in 1637, when 400–700 Pequot people were killed and the colonists declared a Thanksgiving day for their “victory.”
Similar thanksgiving days were held after King Philip’s War in 1676, when the Wampanoag population was devastated.
