CD Guadalajara earned a 1-nil victory against Club América in the first leg of their Round of 16 series as the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continued on Wednesday at Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Álvaro Fidalgo had a look on goal for the visitors in the 28’ but was denied by Guadalajara goalkeeper Raúl Rangel.

Henry Martín attempted to score from distance in the 31′ but was wide of testing Rangel.

José Castillo tested Malagón with a strike from the top of the box in the 49′, but the América goalkeeper swatted away the danger.

CD Guadalajara took the lead in the 77’ off a Sebastián Cáceres own goal. The ball rebounded off the América defender as Malagón attempted to make a save on a cross into his area from Mateo Chávez.

Rangel delivered back-to-back saves in the 84’, first to deny 84′ Érick Sánchez from outside the box and the follow-up from Henry Martín.

The Chivas goalkeeper finished the night with five saves and the clean sheet as the home side took the 1-nil lead on aggregate.

The two clubs will meet next Wednesday in the second leg at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City.

    Es obvio que todos los habladores hoy por hoy sean chilla, estoy es negocio y tratándose de un equipo tan pero tan grandemente mediocre, América penso que si ganaba este partido era lógico que el sábado tendría estadio medio vacío y por obvias razones no les convenía a ninguno de los dos, este sábado empatan y el miércoles América termina con las ilusiones de este pobre equipo de chillas 😂😂
