Boston Legacy wins their second home game in a row with goals from Aleigh Gambone and Amanda Gutierres, both their first NWSL goals. Orlando Pride struck first with Marta’s 15th career regular-season PK goal but it’s not enough to overcome the home team.

This ref is a joke!
I hope that Florida gets another team besides the Orlando Pride! That way, the Orlando Pride can have a biggest rival! I would suggest that the city should be Miami. Their stadium would be Nu Stadium, which is located in Miami FL. It would be shared with Inter Miami CF. Other ideas for upcoming expansion cities (if it ever happens again) are these considerations:
Arizona
This team would play at the new soccer-specific stadium that is being built in Mesa AZ, which is a suburb of the city of Phoenix AZ. It is likely that the stadium would land an MLS team as well. Obviously, we’ll have to see.
Austin
This team would play at Q2 Stadium in Austin TX, sharing it with Austin FC of MLS.
Baltimore
This team would play at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore MD. Maybe an MLS team can come to Baltimore as well? Both teams would play at M&T Bank Stadium should it occur, therefore sharing it with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens.
Birmingham
This team would play at Protective Stadium in Birmingham AL, sharing it with UAB’s football team and Birmingham Legion of USL Championship. Maybe they can join MLS?
Buffalo
This team would play at the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park NY, sharing it with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, as well as potentially an MLS team representing Buffalo NY. Who knows!
Cleveland
This team would play at the new soccer-specific stadium that is being built in Cleveland OH. The team would share it with the MLS Next Pro team that will be representing Cleveland OH.
Connecticut
This team would play at Rentschler Field in East Hartford CT. But first, the stadium, which is normally the home of UConn’s football team, would be renovated to become way more modern than it is now.
Dallas
This team would play at Toyota Center in Frisco TX, sharing it with FC Dallas of MLS.
Detroit
This team would play at AlumniFi Field in Detroit MI, which is currently under construction. Upon completion, it will be the new home of USL Championship’s Detroit City FC. In my opinion, that team should eventually join MLS. Either way, that team and the NWSL team would share the stadium with each other.
Indianapolis
This team would play at the new soccer-specific stadium that is planned for Indianapolis IN. If it gets built, it would be for the attempt at Indianapolis IN landing an MLS team. Both that team and the NWSL team would share the stadium with each other.
Jacksonville
This team would play at the new Sporting Club Jacksonville stadium, which will be built in Jacksonville FL. Maybe Sporting Club Jacksonville of USL Championship could eventually join MLS? Either way, both teams would sure the stadium with each other.
Las Vegas
This team would start out at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise NV, sharing it with the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV’s football team. In the meantime, should the Vancouver Whitecaps’ potential relocation to Las Vegas get finalized, they would build a soccer-specific stadium in Las Vegas NV, and the new Las Vegas MLS team would share it with the NWSL team. Until then, both teams would start out temporarily at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise NV.
Milwaukee
This team would play at the new Iron District soccer-specific stadium that is being built in Milwaukee WI. It will mainly be home to a new USL Championship team. Both the NWSL team and the USL Championship team would share the stadium with each other. Maybe the USL Championship team could eventually join Major League Soccer? That would only happen if the team becomes successful.
Minnesota
This team would play at Allianz Field in St. Paul MN, therefore sharing it with Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer.
Montreal
This team would play at Saputo Stadium in Montreal QC, therefore sharing it with CF Montreal of Major League Soccer.
Nashville
This team would play at Geodis Park in Nashville TN, therefore sharing it with Nashville SC of Major League Soccer.
New Orleans
This team would play at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans LA, therefore sharing it with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. Maybe the city of New Orleans LA could also get an MLS team? Should this occur, it would be the same venue, Caesars Superdome in New Orleans LA.
Oklahoma City
This team would play at the new soccer-specific stadium that is being built in Oklahoma City OK. Upon completion, it will be the home of the soon-to-be-revived, currently-defunct USL Championship team known as OKC Energy. Maybe they can join MLS? Either way, both them and the NWSL team would share the stadium.
Ottawa
This team would play at TD Place in Ottawa ON, therefore sharing it with the CFL’s Ottawa RedBlacks and Atletico Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League. Eventually, I think that they should rebrand as Ottawa Fury FC, in order to sound a bit more unique, and to revive that old USL Championship team’s name. It sounds like a better name, at least in my opinion.
Philadelphia
This team would play at Subaru Park in Chester PA, therefore sharing it with the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.
Pittsburgh
This team would play at the newly-renovated and expanded Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh PA, therefore sharing it with USL Championship’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Maybe they can eventually join Major League Soccer?
Sacramento
This team would play at the new Railyards soccer-specific stadium that is being built in Sacramento CA. Upon completion, it will be the new home of USL Championship’s Sacramento Republic, which is trying to join MLS. Both them and the NWSL team would share the stadium.
San Antonio
This team would play at the newly-renovated and expanded Toyota Field in San Antonio TX, therefore sharing it with USL Championship’s San Antonio FC. Maybe they can eventually join Major League Soccer? Either way, we’ll obviously have to see what happens.
St. Louis
This team would play at Energizer Park in St. Louis MO, therefore sharing it with St. Louis City FC of Major League Soccer.
Tampa Bay
This team would play at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa FL, therefore sharing it with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I think that USL Championship’s Tampa Bay Rowdies should eventually join MLS and move into this stadium, sharing it with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay NWSL team.
Toronto
This team would play at BMO Field in Toronto ON, therefore sharing it with Toronto FC of MLS.
Vancouver
This team would play at BC Place in Vancouver BC, therefore sharing it with the Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS. But if their possible relocation to Las Vegas gets finalized, then the NWSL team would be the only soccer team at this stadium, BC Place in Vancouver BC. Maybe the Vancouver Whitecaps can eventually be revived, but as a Canadian Premier League team? I think that Vancouver FC could relocate to BC Place, and become the Vancouver Whitecaps, in terms of their name. The old MLS team would then be revived, but as a Canadian Premier League team. Both them and the NWSL team would share BC Place with the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
Does everyone like my ideas for the NWSL? I didn’t include Miami in that list, which should also be a top candidate, because I already mentioned them. They would be at Nu Stadium in Miami FL, sharing it with Inter Miami CF of Major League Soccer.
Why does Orlando not have more consistent players outside of Benda and Marta? Org really needs to invest.
I think that Boston Legacy’s home stadium until White Stadium opens really should have been in Boston MA city limits. My idea for that would have been either Fenway Park via putting a soccer field on the the Boston Red Sox baseball field, or Harvard Stadium via putting a soccer field on the Harvard University football field. It should have been with occasional games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough MA, as well as occasional games at the home stadium for the USL Championship League’s Rhode Island FC in Pawtucket RI, and at the home stadium for the UConn Huskies’ football team in East Hartford CT. That way, it would be done from all around the New England region. Connecticut (East Hartford), Massachusetts (Boston and Foxborough), and Rhode Island (Pawtucket) would be the states hosting the games.
So many goals would be scored in NWSL if there was better hold-up play, vision exhibited by the player with the ball, and off-the-ball running. Time and time again players are anxious in the buildup and let rip low-percentage shots from distance/bad angles, when the replay will show other (better) options to pass previously. I want the NWSL to live up to being better than Women's Super League like the narrative-at-large posits, but the emphasis on athleticism over cerebral is maddening
amazing this what socer is about
How and why did the goal go in? What was the keeper thinking was going out of play? If so, this stupid person never thinks that unless you know that
Once again the refereeing in this league is awful. Nobody even understands why that was given as a penalty, not even the players from either team…
Why did Banda not start? Was she injured?
Typical NWSL–you can never be sure who is going to win ANY game. Competitive top to bottom!
The ref is a joke
Really happy for Legacy today! They were hard done by that controversial PK call against them and went 1 down – would have been demoralizing to any team. They kept on creating chances and happy they converted two and were deserved winners today. Dunno which Pride side turned up today – unrecognizable!
WE LOST TO BOSTON, TO BOSTON?! Come on Orlando! 😩
lianne Sanderson makes the game so exciting,so interesting.
Not a huge fan of either penalty call, but if you’re going to call the first one then it is only fair that you call the second one. Both were extremely questionable. Either way, Boston deserved to win so it all worked out in the end.
annie karich vuelve al america
The inconsistency with VAR is the infuriating part. Janine Sonis received a red for a cleats up TAP on the shin in their opener. (Not arguing the red, just acknowledging the low standard that has been set). Here Banda gets cleated HEAVILY on the shin win no red, no yellow, NO FOUL at all with no VAR check. With 2 new fanbases understanding two completely different interpretations of what a red card tackle is, it should be no surprise to the league that long term fan retention and home club attendance is broadly speaking declining for most clubs.
Dont know the refs name but i recognize her from her horrible calls. Dont they have like ref warnings or ref cards for repeated crap calls?
Im glad orlando lost that game, the 1st pen was a garbage call. So bad. An undeserved goal
The NWSL needs to stop with trying to shove rivalries down the throats of the fans. I’m hearing announcers and experts really trying hard to push rivalry talk. I don’t know why the NWSL thinks this is necessary. But it’s not. All the people who would potentially care about rivalries already follow the league as it is. Rivalries only add anger, aggression, and potentially violence. It doesn’t attract more followers. One of the reasons i much prefer women’s soccer over men’s is that there isn’t the testosterone and hyper aggression. People can like multiple teams and players from other teams while still supporting their own team. It’s a league based in support, not feuds. Don’t try to make women’s sports follow men’s sports. It will likely hurt more than help.
Well, VAR came to play today. VAR is a game changer!🙄🤫🤭
As a new fan to nwsl i really appreciate Lianne’s commentary as she often explains what and why players and teams do what they do and why, and you can tell she’s very knowledgeable.
Really hope Boston makes a bid for Sam Kerr and Christie Mewis
Vow, penalty!!!!!!! how, where, donde, como.
someone has to explains the rules of the game to the people runing VAR.
The goalkeeper has the right to go for the ball and catch it…that's what Murphy did.
Shame on the referees that have not guts to overrule VAR.
Because VAR call to check a play, does not mean you have to sanction a penalty.
Did we ever figure out what the first penalty kick was for?
I hope WSL fans are watching because they just got a glimpse into what their league will look like with VAR.
