From right-back to a lethal striker 🤯

Mateusz Żukowski went from playing right-back to starting as a striker in the 2. Bundesliga. That’s rare.

Rangers signed him in 2022 as a potential long-term replacement for James Tavernier at right-back, but he left on a free just 18 months later. Back in Poland, he mostly played as a winger and got just 1 goal in 27 games.

Then Magdeburg took a chance on him while he was recovering from foot surgery — and turned him into a No.9. It worked. He scored 11 goals and had 2 assists in his first 12 matches.

  1. Man, I remember him playing for Śląsk Wrocław as right back. And we see him In The 2. Bundesliga scoring lots Of goals. That is just Insane.

  2. Well once upon a time in Zagłębie Lubin it was a tall skinny dude called…..Łukasz Piszczek,he score goal after goal, always play like a forward. One day he land in Hertha Berlin and his German coach….. .found out he might be much better right back 😂!!!! Today Piszczek is a retired legend of Borussia Dortmund and Poland national team, one of the greatest defenders we ever got

  3. He was playing as striker in junior and early senior career. Then he was moved to right-back, but there was awful. And now in Magdeburg he cames back to his natural position – striker.

  4. He played for my team, Śląsk Wrocław in Poland. And I’ll be honest, I don’t know how this has happend. Because he was so bad when he played for us. I joke about the fact that he went from being one of our worst players to potentially getting called up to the national team. Hard work clearly pays off 💪

  5. If anyone is fan of old anime, doesn't this reminds y'all of an anime called (HUNGRY HEART: Wild Striker) the football player called (Kanou Kyousuke-orange hair guy) who had played multiple positions just to make him a better striker 😅

  6. Hopefully 1.FCM does not get relegated. Thats what is more important than him going to a "top club" Magdeburg has only 1 european cups less than PSG and better fans. What again is a top club?

  7. Mateusz Żukowski is a Polish right back now striker he was playing for Śląsk Wrocław which is my city team and i even have a signature from him

  8. Also Żukowski became sort of famous or infamous for regularly parking in handicapped spots and for his girlfriend, who ate kettle limestone during a livestream, which he tried to cut short, leading to a hilarious back and forth between them

  9. He is the reverse Piszczek. Łukasz Piszczek of Borussia Dortmund fame started as a centre forward, but then, I believe it was in Hertha, he was moved to right back, and because a legend

  10. I have a player like this in my team 😂 We don't really know why he was a CB before, he is one of the best in the team in 1v1.
So this is not strange, it usually happend.

  11. What about Merino for Arsenal going from CDM to a striker who scored against Madrid and Liverpool. He never played as striker ever until the age of 29.
