  1. I'd argue the most remarkable coin toss was in the match between Liverpool and Cologne in the 1965 champions cup quarterfinal. After two 0:0 draws a third match on neutral ground in Rotterdam was scheduled which ended in a draw after extra time as well. What made the following coinflip remarkable ist that on the first attempt the coin landed on it's edge. Only after the second coin toss Liverpool progressed.

  2. Another similarly famous coin toss happened in the quarterfinal of the 1964/65 European cup between Liverpool and Köln. Two 0-0 draws in Köln and Anfield were followed by another draw (2-2) in Rotterdam. The referee flipped a coin to finally decide the game but it stuck vertically in the ground so they had to re-do the coin toss.

  3. The Euro 1976 Final is the first game in major football tournaments to be decided by the penalty shootout. That game saw the birth of "Panenka chip" by Antonin Panenka himself, who scored the winning penalty for Czechoslovakia.

  4. In a 1970 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match between Morroco and Tunisia, it was decided by a coin toss. Morroco won and went in to the world cup.
