Jose Mourinho hopes Frank Lampard looks to Chelsea’s current young players, and insists their only problem has been losing Eden Hazard.

With a transfer ban imposed, new manager Lampard will have a unique situation to work with at Stamford Bridge, something Mourinho says could work in their advantage.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, the former Chelsea boss says he is reserving judgement on Lampard’s managerial prowess until the results come in, and gave an insight into Lampard’s character as a player.

  1. Mourinho speaking about Chelsea transfer ban 2 years ago

"I think this is a great opportunity for them to grow. Chelsea needs a strong guy in midfield? . Zouma. No need to buy. He's a PL winner Chelsea needs a striker? Tammy Abraham. He's a Chelsea boy more than some other big name. Everywhere he goes he scores. Played in the PL played in the championship but with a PL level club and he never had issues scoring. I can see him finishing the season as Chelsea's top scorer "

That season Lampard did play Tammy a lot and he did finish the season as Chelsea's top scorer being a massive part of them getting top 4 and now he went to Roma and finished last season being England's top scorer in Europe equal with Harry Kane. I really wish Chelsea had kept him instead of paying a record breaking fee for a guy that could barely score 5 goals last season. That zouma comment didn't age the best though…

  2. Jose Mourinho can beat Chelsea in the finals and we still would call him one of our own because his heart will always be blue💙💙

  3. It’s mad because zouma has been our best centre back this season😂 azpi obviously being the best all round defender. And Tammy has been okay this season scoring 15 goals so Jose was right.

  4. The transfer ban is probably a blessing in disguise for Chelsea in the long run. The team needs to rebuild after failure in their last 2 seasons and the departure of Hazard. Frank first needs to figure out who stays and who goes, but must give everyone a chance. Then next summer, they can splash cash on world class players: a box to box mid if barkley fails, if Mount fails then a playmaker, a winger if pedro/willian/pulisic can't do the job and a striker if abraham needs more time to develop.

  5. I do love Jose. The Portuguese Brian Clough. But FFS Jose who are you kidding. Talking about playing youth and bringing players back from on loan. Like he has EVER given youth a chance. The man had Salah and De Bruyne and didnt give them a chance.
