Lampard good but not like Kevin de Bruyne 🩵
Lampard is an ironic case: because he was arguably the greatest goal-scoring midfielders in football history, many of his other strengths end up being relatively underrated—his passing, vision, ability to read the game, movement that creates space, defensive ability (in fact, Lampard shows excellent defensive indicators in stats like interceptions per game and tackle success rate, and he achieved those moments while hardly ever getting booked), and more.
Some younger fans who have only watched stat highlights or compilations of his goals even mistakenly assume Lampard played as an attacking midfielder (AM). But Lampard never played as an AM. He clearly operated box to box midfielder, and although he frequently joined the attack and did it extremely well (which is why those images stick in people’s minds), he is a player who cannot be categorized as an AM.
Anyone who has watched many Lampard videos—not just this assist-only one—will understand. His passes are often delivered half a beat to a full beat earlier than expected. You might find a few players with more “flashy” striking technique than Lampard, like Gerrard or De Bruyne, but in terms of consistently producing that level of pass quality at such unexpected timing, I honestly can’t remember a single player like him in the Premier League.
Throughout his career, Lampard constantly scanned the pitch—so often you could hardly count it. That ability to read the game combined with his kicking technique created the kind of moments you see in videos like this.
If I had to sum up Lampard in one sentence: he wasn’t a “flashy” player, but he was an “efficient and intelligent” one. He felt like a player who already had the best choice organized in his head—constantly knowing what decision to make in every moment. And that’s why, for more than a decade, he could perform at the very top level consistently without major fluctuations. That consistency is probably why he was able to set so many unbreakable records, too.
I’m proud and grateful that I was able to watch him play.
Just as he succeeded as a player, I hope he can achieve great success as a manager as well.
Scored more than most strikers and assisted more than most wingers and playmakers. He's the best box-to-box midfielder you could ask for. Sure, people like Zidane and Iniesta are more pleasing on the eye, but Lampard wins you way more games across the season than those others ever will, because goals and assists wins games. And Lampard isn't even a strict "attacking" midfielder, he was box-to-box.
Ryan Giggs all assists please
I think Lampard is one of the most underrated players in the history of football. 177 PL goals, 102 Assists, scoring in CL, FA Cup finals, leading both goals and assists categories as central midfielder isn't a joke. (Even KDB never got to 100 PL goals.) Lampard is by far the best midfielder to ever play in the premier league!

I love this type of videos. Especially if it includes the Blues. But could you please tone down the music a little bit?
What a fantastic player
Finally!! The video I've been waiting for years! People need to appreciate Frank Lampard's creative prowess & vision. He's far from just a box crashing finisher. He's a creator. 102 Assists on top of 177 Goals in the Prem is mad stats.
Super Frank 💙
