  1. Its nice to see Richarlison finding his form as a goalscorer, and even more refreshing is seeing Werner find form as a creator. Werner played a big part in both of Richarlison’s goals, good to see him figure out what works for hin

  2. It’s so cool how the stadium is just built right next to residential homes. I wish I lived next to a stadium I could walk to to watch the football. Stupid America.

  3. What a great word for the commentator to use – 'consternation' -it's another word for 'dismay', and maybe good reason for it with all the injuries. I think the word is a sad one to use, but let's have more literary commentators. J.

  4. These highlights are kinda inconsistent, some times they just jump straight to kick-off, this time they showed some nice pre-match images, and sometimes they show the line-ups (they also have two formats for the line-ups)

  6. Regarding blocking on goalkeepers:

I played in goal for seven years and then in the field for over twenty years (in every position). I'm also a certified referee. At some point this will need to be addressed. Goalkeepers used to be well protected within the 6 yard box, but now it seems that they are fair game. I think that the rule should be that there has to be one yard of space around the keeper until the ball is kicked on corners and free kicks. This is similar to the distance required for defenders on throw ins with the thrower.

I know that English fans miss the physicality of their old game, but the game evolves and the rules must as well. Wrestling with the goalkeeper on dead balls is not sporting, an unfair advantage is gained. As an Arsenal fan, every time I see Ben White do this I get upset, and he does it a lot.

Yes, defenders can take countermeasures, such as putting a defender between the attacker and the keeper, but this will only lead to escalation until you have a scrum around the keeper on every corner kick and many free kicks. I don't want to see that, do you?

It's quite straightforward, in the Laws of the Game if a player is playing the man and not the ball, then it IS a foul. An attacker backing into the goalkeeper before the ball is even played IS a foul, by definition. It's obstruction, plain and simple. This is just as much of a foul as a defender wrapping his arms around an opponent and not releasing him until the ball is in the air, preventing free movement, and I'm sure we'd all like to see that called more often, yes?

As a player, both in goal and in the field, I hated getting obstructed all the time and it not being called. As a referee, I call obstruction all the time, even in the penalty area, which most referees neglect to do. A foul is a foul and obstruction IS a foul, resulting in an indirect free kick. Players quickly learn to not obstruct and it makes the game much better.

Bottom line is that it's not rugby, it's not basketball, it's football; and the Laws are the Laws. This needs to be addressed, and the sooner, the better.

Let's keep the beautiful game beautiful and leave the wrestling and blocking to American football.
