  1. 2:48 – Not DOGSO. A red for serious foul play, yes. But there is more to DOGSO than being an "empty net." The player must be moving DIRECTLY to the goal, and he was not. If you're going to put out a video giving judgement on whether or not a call is correct, at least use the text of the rule you're discussing. Do not ignore the text of the rule in favor of your personal sense of fairness. Same for the offside in Miami. I'm not going to debate whether or not there was an offside because I can't judge it better than the linesman, but I will say this: If the player is offside at all, the play is offside. It must be. When you say "I do not want to be in the business of calling for goals to be taken off for an inch or two or three," you're saying you don't want to apply the rules. Go find another job.

  2. IMO, VAR is for "clear and obvious" errors, and I think the Miami offside check is a perfect application. Any error, if it exists, is NOT "clear and obvious".

  3. Every week we get an offside call where we are told "we are guessing" and I wonder how this supposedly top tier league doesn't have the technology to make those determinations only to find out from San Diego-Dallas that this supposedly top tier league doesn't even have goal line technology.

  4. wouldn't the off side situation in the Miami game been affected by the phase of play? To me, once the defenders get possession and start to move the ball forward the game enters a new phase of play. Thus, the off side (assuming it was off side) in the attacking phase is no longer valid as the game has entered a new phase of play. When the attackers get possession again there is no off side and thus the goal stands.

  5. I think the brady red was for dogso, but when you look at it closely he does try and hold back at the end but doesn't have enough time to fully pull back, there is clearly no intent to kick mcguire, I think red for dogso is the right call but not serious foul play

  6. Can’t have it both ways. If it was a foul last week on the Rapids it should be a foul this week. Benteke uses his hands to keep Awaziem down and prevents him from jumping. If the hands aren’t there I think awaziem gets to it. Come on Andrew.

  7. Benteke placed 2 hands on an opponent to prevent that opponent from jumping for the ball & to allow himself to jump over the top of that defender… clear & obvious foul, clear & obvious error by the on field official, compounded by VAR not intervening… ironic that these videos are the only MLS I watch, & I don't miss it because of how corrupt it is! Worse than a Real Madrid game!

I agree with Andrew on the Sealy no-call being a foul & the StL handball… 3 cases of doing a Geiger, aka corruption in 1 match day, typical MLS

  8. Would have liked to see a yellow for simulation against san jose on the VAR pk call. No contact on the player and he's grabbing his leg like he was dragged down or something. I've never been a fan of diving for calls and maybe being a bit more harsh would curb some of it.

  9. 1:48 Any time a player puts both hands on another’s shoulders and uses that advantage to keep their opponent from jumping or to give themselves extra height, that has to be a foul. Zero tolerance for that. Benteke’s foul here isn’t subtle and the goal should have been disallowed.

4:00 No penalty is the correct call here. Sealy was never getting to that ball. The slip didn’t just cause Sealy to fall, it also caused him to make a bad touch that was going to have at least two defenders between him and the ball before he recovered from the fall. No pen.

When is MLS going to get goal line technology? It remains an unserious league until it does.

7:25 PK and also yellow for simulation. The defender should not have held onto Martinez’s shoulder. Martinez shouldn’t have dove like he’d been chloroformed. Both those statements can be true.

  10. Thanks for the video! I have been trying to keep up with these videos to get other opinions on the videos I see which is mainly highlights for most of the games. Would it be possible to bring in a second person for another opinion like we had with Charlie a few years ago?
Either way, great job! Thanks for the video!

  11. Thanks for calling out that ARs position on that San Diego goal. That call had me really upset on principal that he does not have a clear view, which he is supposed to have per the LotG to call that a goal.

  12. The refused handball review in Seattle was just abysmal: the CR was clearly asking for multiple angles, replaying it over and over for several minutes, looking for a way he could not give the foul. The ball MAYBE slightly touching the hip was his "out."
The worst CR mistakes are those of hubris: when the CR believes he's the best person to make the call and looks for any reason to reject the VAR's advice. This unfortunately happens a LOT in MLS.

  13. I ran the Miami potential offside through some basic vfx pricipals to draw the offside line and it is very clear that it is offside. However, with the MLS refusing to put the effort into drawing lines, def not enough to go to var without.

  14. I'm a City SC fan, and that's absolutely a handball and penalty against St Louis. The commentators said that they were being told that the no-call was kept because the ref determined the arm was in a natural position, but I'm just not seeing that, either.
