  1. Such a stupid argument, "that's what Messi is paid to do" .. Isn't every player paid to do that? Then why don't they? .. Seriously, what have you smoked dude.. 🙁 .. I mean next these same schmucks would say that Lewandowski has done extraordinarily well by scoring 50 goals for Bayern, so give him the ballon d'or.. And Messi is just an ordinary footballer for scoring 50 goals every season.. And let's not even get into the playmaking part of his game and those assists.. You are seriously trying to rob him just because he does it every day.. Sometimes I feel like we fans know better football than these stupid experts.. Just tell me one thing, Is Van Dijk the best defender you have seen in the past 10 or 12 years? If other defenders didn't win it, why should he..!?

  2. People don’t appreciate Messi because he is so consistent and apparently 50 goals a season is normal for him , when Messi retires people will understand the value of Messi it’s outrageous the way these crap ex footballers speak messi

  3. A nice little stat for Merson: "Messi has scored more goals against Arsenal than any other team in UEFA competition – nine in 447 minutes comprising six games. On average, that's a goal every 49 minutes and 40 seconds." (uefa.com)

  4. You can't defend better than how Van Dijk does, He is the best in his position in the world. He essentially can't be dribbled past. He is capable of scoring goals, wins every battle in the air and gives amazing through balls and assists to his team mates. And he won the Champions League by the way and was in the final of the National League. He deserves the Ballon d'Or.

  5. Who in the hell are these guys ? Ibra would say: "If you don't choose Messi you've completely lost your marbles or you don't know one thing about football". So, who TF is interested in the opinion of these nobodies ?

  6. £90-100m for Harry Kane? Miles off… has to be minimum £150m to even be considered.

Why Kane would choose Utd is beyond me, it’s alright saying ‘he needs to win things’ but if he went to Utd he would be going from one team that are not quite good enough to another. United’s squad is a mile off and if they signed Kane I can’t imagine they would be able to invest much further in the same window.

Agree Kane should leave but surely he wouldn’t go to a club because they are ‘the biggest in the world’ he needs to go to a squad capable of winning trophies. City/Barca/Juve would be better destinations for trophies surely?

  7. jesus f*cking christ xDD
I love how every skysport debate sooner or later turn to praising their own players and talk about how come world doesn't admire their best players xD
THIS exactly…the selfabsorbation and thinking you are something special….this exactly hold England from every winning anything 😀
I watch these so called "golden generations" one after another since 1998….and it is all the same xD There is only one thing for sure. England won't win anything with this overhyping themselfs

  8. this is smtg normal or english media nd analysists to hype their league players no way in hell VVD is even close of a footballer to messi , liverpool has a full team nd many players tht made an impact in barça only Messii nd ter stegen , Messi is involved in almost evey goal barcelona scores in every win they get , matip was so great last year nd he deosn't get any recogniton from these clowns nd just the fact that they argued tht Kane should be in the list shows how biased they're toward english players nd players in the Prem

  9. it would be an absolute disgrace if Messi doesn't win the Ballon d'Or after the season he had. Period. He was MILES ahead of everyone in EVERY offensive category and carried that Barca team to the brink of a treble. And by the way, he played well at Anfield. To blame him for that loss is ignorant.

  10. Imagine being 5th ballon dor favourite in the 2018 season and top scorer and assister in all competitions for the 2019 season, but because you are Lionel Messi whose done this for 15 years, you're not an outright favourite.

  11. I guess now a Days Ballon dor is no more decided by individual performence …. Rather….They look for a Face in UCL winning team….Modric Really!!!! plsz just stop making only one player accountable for THE ENTIRE team's success or failure…. If Croatia comes till Finals in WC and Real wins UCL …it does not mean that 11 of 11 players Modric….that's bloody disrespect to other players who contributed equally rather played much better than him….. Similarly FOR LIVERPOOL…. let us analyse how Liverpool were successful…OH NO WAIT WE CAN JUST SAVE OUR TIME AND GIVE ALL CREDIT TO THE FACE OF LIV(Salah…jk ….VVD)….. For Me….. If Van is 1 then Mane or Firmino should be 0 above VAN…. And undoubtedly MESSI should win…. It does not matter whether he has broken or not his own personal best performance…… It is about his art this year VS other's art this year…

  12. Messi should win it. There's no debate about it. The fact that it's even being spoken about is ridiculous. Barcelona is a shadow of what they used to be and to have a guy consistently carry you year in and year out should speak volumes. And this isn't to discredit Van Dijk because he's had a phenomenal year but he also has a solid midfield and a front 3 that easily carries them. Are they currently a better team than Barcelona? Absolutely. So tell me how does one player that comes from a team who collectively an absolute machine outperform individually another player who is constantly carrying an aging squad? You can't. That's a fact. Paul Merson, you are spewing nonsense.

  13. Virgil Van Dijk: makes a clearance or tackle or something

Sky sports pundits: "Later in the night we'll be having a heated debate over whether Van Dijk is on track to win the Nobel peace prize"

  14. If any other player besides Messi accomplished what Messi did last year: Golden boot winner, top scorer in La Liga, Champions League and all of Europe in general and top 3 in assists, they would win by a landslide. Messi deserves Ballon D’Or, Virgil had a great season, but still not better than Messi individually. This is an individual award which goes to the best player of every year, and Messi was by far the best player last season.

  15. If sterling would have gotten 50+ goals last season they would be going bonkers but since it is expected from messi to do that every sesson he does not get enough credit

  16. Given how much Man Utd spent on Lukaku before the transfer market properly exploded, they'd have to spend at least 200m to get Kane. And that's even assuming he'd want to move there: were he available, a lot better sides than Man Utd would be bidding for him. You might as well say that Man Utd should break the bank to sign Mbappe.

  17. the thing is we expected this type of season from messi; we didnt with van dijk, this is why van dijk is favourite like modric last year because people like to move onto new players that have hit an exceptionally good year
