Virgil Van Dijk absolutely should've won the Ballon d'or that year. He elevated both Liverpool and the Netherlands national team to a whole different level at the time. Leo did nothing of the kind, evidently VVD's Liverpool knocked his Barcelona out of the UCL 4-3 despite being 3-0 down after the first leg.
The weakest part of football in awards or credits is that the defender gets less recognition compare to the strikers , thus for it, I love cricket sports than football eventhough it's a boring and lazy game. Further, balon d or should b given to Virgil van djik bcoz of his efforts towards winning the game as well as final in the champions league , in addition to that , he have all the skills to play in all the positions attacking , striking, etc..with his defence , the opponent hadn't score the goal, lastly, he conceded some major goals which helps his team to win the match….of all, from his skills And hardworking, I think that football awards and credits is going to b change from the skills of van djik , like it's beginning and going to b change after his nomination…
I am a Liverpool fan but Messi really should win it. It would actually be an insult and disrespectful to this Liverpool team in my opinion if Van Dijk won the ballon d'or. Liverpool did not win because of any one player but rather because an entire team played together and for each other. What made 18/19 Liverpool so special was THE TEAM so to give this award to any one player from that group I would be disappointed.

As much as i like messi, van dijk deserves ballon dor, if argentina dont have strong copa america tournament..for ronaldo, he will always be candidate too as long as he play.. this season portugal won nation league, but why still van dijk(dutch beaten finalist) still ahead of him? The reason is van dijk involved in nation league group stage(group of death with france and germany) while ronaldo didnt..ronaldo started playing in semifinal and final..thats why i think brnando silva won player of tournament..while van dijk played in semifinal still tired 4,5 days after CL triumph..

Bernardo Silva had an exceptional season, but what messi and ronaldo do is just too much. The only player to rival them this year would have to be Van Dijk. It’s simply unfortunate for Silva as the other 3 were beyond exceptional.
As an lfc fan I would obviously hope Van Dijk wins it, but I think it would be very close between him Ronaldo and Messi and anyone of them can win it.

It would be refreshing to see a defender win it for a change. Defenders deserve some serious credit. Whenever a attacker fails at, for example, a shot at goal, there isn't that much of a problem as they just can try again. When a defender fails however, it most of the time gets punished with a goal against you.
Messi is the greatest of all time we know that… but for what Van Dijk has done for defending he should win it this year. No doubt. Messi is still the greatest ever player to kick a football.
