  1. Philadelphia and Portland got screwed. The lack of quality from an American based league shows with games like that. Howard Webb made it respectable creating PRO but they have fallen apart without his guidance.

  2. 4:10 it looks to me that it hits the head and then the hand. Notice how the hand jerks back after the ball appears to contact it. Is that not a pk? If it is, it isn’t clear and obvious that the ball only hits the head and the pk should stand.

  3. I’ll include the time code when MLS wrap up is available to watch whenever I want. It’s impossible to find if you look after Sunday’s/monday. I paid $100 and can’t even find your content? The f

  4. EpL officiating is terrible because it’s inconsistent. But the MLS officiating is like ten tiers worse because of their lack of logic , common sense , rule understanding and inconsistency

  5. RE: the Timbers/Galaxy 'advantage' call. If the ref was calling advantage, shouldn't he still have gone back to give the LAG defender a yellow card? He didn't do that. Which makes me think he missed the call.

The ref is claiming that he saw the foul and played advantage – but if he did he would have gone back and issued a booking. The LAG defender got a chunk of Paredes's foot with his studs in the box – that's a yellow card

The fact that the ref did NOT go back and issue a booking makes it even more bizarre. You still go back and issue the card after the advantage is played (but ref didn't do that)

  6. I'm not saying Andrew Wiebe is wrong on the offside call in the Tor/Chi game, his opinion is probably correct based on the rules of the game – but it does seem criminal to say "That was probably offsides, but we shouldn't call it offsides on the field and because it's not obvious we shouldn't have VAR review it either." That seems like a problem that needs fixing to me.

  7. While the best way to handle that should have been an immediate PK, whoever is narating this is dead wrong. They say and I quote "while the correct call on the field is to play advantage for the shot, once that shot does not result in a goal there is no advantage to a penalty." Unless MLS has a different defined rule around this then FIFA, then you CAN give advantage on a penalty foul and if you do you CANNOT give a penalty afterword. The shot developed for an obvious goal scoring opportunity and then failed, so no PK (assume the ref was actually giving advantage, which he did not signal so who knows). If the shooter had been challenged in some way or the ability to take the shot (half assed from a bad angle) then you would have room to say the advantage never developed in to a real opportunity and could then give the PK, but he had a clear, unhindered shot on goal.

Edit: To clarify, this was a bad call because advantage should never have been given, or the foul was missed and should have gone to review.

  8. Timbers fan here. I'm going to assume advantage was played , even though we didn't get a signal. The infraction didn't negatively impact Lassiter's ability to get a shot off. He actually had a better look than Paredes, and that's enough to say that the advantage was recognized. Just because we fluffed a wide-open chance at the top of the 18, the LOG don't give us a re-do. I'd like to see the LOG revised there, and it's a TOUGH pill to swallow, but does seem like the correct application of the rule to me.

  9. 2:05 technically it would still be DOGSO but would be considered DOGSO-Y. Making an attempt to play the ball in the penalty area does not negate that it is still DOGSO; the disciplinary action taken is just reduced to a YC.

  10. I hope PRO discusses the Portland – LA non-call. I think the ref, in real time, has some valid excuses. Maybe he missed it. Maybe he thought it was outside the area and wanted to play advantage. Not sure what valid excuses VAR can come up with though.

  11. It annoys me so much how these offside calls are still done by eye. VAR has a lot of issues in the Premiere League, but the lines they draw for offside helps both the refs and the viewers so much.

  12. MLS referees are very much fond of punishment cards – in most of the cases, these can be avoided, particularly in the cases of issuing red cards! The frequency of using red cards must have to be decreased!

  13. I was at the Union game. No excuse for having as long a look at the monitor as he did and STILL make two bad PK calls! Classic case of, "I made bad calls so I'm going to throw cards around to cover my incompetence". My first thought on the way out was "I can't wait to see Wiebe's replay of this".

  14. The frustrating part about all of this is that nothing will happen, nothing will change. The refs that make blatantly bad calls won't be disciplined or reprimanded in any way. PRO will not make a statement about it or acknowledge it, and nothing will be done to prevent it from happening again next week.

If I was that bad at my job, I'd be fired. But for MLS and PRO, it's just another day at the office.

  15. As a Timbers fan, it feels nice that finally everyone agrees with a penalty call that should’ve gone Portland’s way. ā€œTimbers fans, I feel your pain.ā€ Even galaxy fans knew it. I seriously have no idea how that’s not a pen. The foul was so clear that advantage shouldn’t have been played. I wouldn’t be too mad about the advantage part if the ref actually signaled for it but he didn’t even do that. He told our captain that it was a penalty but since Lassiter shot it, no call. Absolutely atrocious. These pro refs need to be fired. And why the hell do we have VAR if we are not gonna use it. So stupid.

  16. A lot happened in that LAG vs Portland penalty no-call. First off yeah thats a penalty second is Kelsy on Portland choking Aude LITERALLY in front of the ref!!
Pause around 2:58. These refs should be fired

  17. For the Portland call — ā€œReferee plays advantageā€ but that’s the thing!!! No he doesn’t!!! He does not make a signal for advantage. To everyone on the field, they see that the ref just simply missed the call. The ā€œadvantageā€ part shouldn’t even be taken into consideration, which makes it even worse
