Ref was just reminding everyone that all sports are rigged.
I am not sure who is more dumb, the announcers saying that a referee who administered 20+ misconduct-related cards lost control of the game OR the clueless fans who think that this is on the referee in any way, shape, or form. Players and coaches know what is expected of them.

A game in which the best way to gain an advantage is flopping incessantly when you're beat on a play for the ball, and for what?… fool the ref? …then writhe in pain as if somebody sledge hammered your shin? Hoping your pain just short of going to the hospital, will give the ref the idea to give the other team a yellow?
