  4. MLS, you could produce a video explaining to Americans how soccer works. All sports have material explaining to the new fans the basic structure of the game, and I don't see that in soccer. In addition to the rules, I offer a script with some ideas, comparing it with other sports to put down some myths:

Americans say the game is boring and has a low score. And they often compare it to American football saying that this one is the real football. They don't realize that football has a bit of an illusion. What really matters are touchdowns, not field goals or first downs. And they not occur that much. Most games end 2 – 2 or 3 – 2. But touchdowns are worth 6 pts and you still have the extra point and field goals. Illusion to generate entertainment. The inventors realized that it is difficult to reach the target multiple times, so they created the field goal. Not to mention that it is played with the hands, while soccer is played with the feet. The feet weren't made for carry up and throw things. This is a heck of a skill.

The target in football is the entire base line; in soccer it is a box, closed on the sides and above, in a minimal part of the base line. Also, soccer field is bigger than american football field. And there are no commercial break every five minutes. Soccer is a game of patience, offense look for space to finalize and defense try to close space and steal the ball; its a simple game, easy to understand.

I recognize that in american football there is no 0 – 0, even with my count, but it is precisely because it is played with the hands and the target is very large. In American sports, offenses have some advantages over defenses, thats why there is high scores, like in basketball, for example. That is, the defenses are challenged by the offenses. In soccer, the opposite occurs: the offense has the challenge of overcoming the defense. That is why the goal is very celebrated.

Regarding 0-0 or other draws: everyone wants to see goals, including soccer fans, but it doesn't always happen. However, a tie is not always just a tie. It can also taste like victory for one team and defeat for the other. That is why it is important to understand the format of the competition and what is at stake in the general context. It's true: fans can celebrate a 0-0. And this kind of game can be very busy and full of opportunities, but the offenses were overcome by goalkeepers and their defensive teammates. In soccer, defense is just as important as the offense. One goal is one goal and it doesn't matter which part of the field the kick comes from.

About flopping: nobody likes that. Not even soccer fans. Players should avoid this practice. But unfortunately it happens. Not because the game is soft, but because the players want to deceive the referee and obtain advantages, such as: free kick next to the bars or a penalty, or card punishment for the opponent, and so on. The contact in the game is normal and is allowed as long as it is fair, that is, seeking to steal the ball, without unproportional aggressiviness. The game is on the ball, and for the ball. Otherwise it would be impossible if the players were to push and hold each other. In that sense it is similar to basketball. I think soccer and basketball are the best sports. They're kinda relatives. Both have plasticity and beauty, dribbling, are healthy for the body of those who practice them, are simple to understand and practice and are played on the ball. Not to mention that they are complementary in some kind of way: soccer for short and medium height people; and basketball for medium height and very tall people. Soccer with low score; basketball with high score. You have it all. Soccer in open stadiums, with all kinds of weather; basketball in closed arenas. And both can be played by men and women.
