  1. I don't understand the confusion. MLS handball rules clearly state:
    1) it IS a handball if a ball hits the arm of any St. Louis player, no matter the context.
    2) it is NOT a handball if a ball hits the arm of any St. Louis opponent, no matter the context.

  2. The issue I have with the Benteke call that makes it different is the context. A lot of handball calls are in close quarters, with little time to react to the ball. In this case however, it's a lofted cross that he has plenty of time to orient his body to prepare for. He is not being challenged for the ball at all and has ample opportunity to not hit it with his hand, so if there's any contact to the hand it should be considered to be an unnatural position in my opinion

  3. If these were close enough to warrant your analysis – they were close enought to go to monitor. Both the handball and the "Orange" card didn't which gives the fans, if nothing else, a sense of unfairness. It's become a theme with StL games that we will NEVER get the benefit of the doubt but the team we play will. That said – I disagree with all three of the StL reviews, that's not a pen because he hit the slightly backside of the shoulder, that's a handball because StL has been called for that same type of incidental, came off a valid body part first every single time it's possible, and straight leg cleats out into the leg is absolutely a red card "supposed intention" or not since that can't reliably be judged.

  4. Handball in the 18 solution:

Any hand ball in the box- give the opponent a one on one shot with the keeper on the 18yd line straight away from where the foul occured.

It would be basically proportionate to the danger of the hand ball, more middle, more dangerous, more outside, less.

No crashing. One shot. Saved/missed in anyway, goal kick. Goal is a goal.

Gives the keeper a more legitimate chance and stops reducing games to this ridiculous handball garbage.

  5. When did Andrew start considering that raised hands can still be considered natural positions? I have been saying this for year, although I think the play today was a handball all the way.
