Well to be honest, no team has matched Barcelona in possession football from the Pep era. To try judge Madrid midfield by Barcelona standards is absolutely wrong.
Key questions are: Is Madrid midfield able to create goals for its forwards and is it able to assist the team in defence? The answer is an absolute yes but of course improvements will always be needed. But to a person like Phil who prefers Barcelona style football even Kroos, Modric & Casemiro were no match to Barcelona because they didn't play possession football.
