  1. It's not a paradox or self centered for a player to aspire to winning the Ballon D'or, especially for a "middle-elite" club like Liverpool. If I were coach I would definitely consider embracing this goal as a team goal and see what it would look like to build a squad style and mentality that could maximize Trents chances of winning the award this year or next.

For one thing, he's paid his dues and for another it will certainly motivate him personally, and for a third the team would HAVE to win trophies for it to happen. Other players are often motivated more by wanting something for their mate than wanting something for a city or for the fans or for a club.

How many goals and assists would Trent need? Who does he truly want to have around him on the right along with Mo of course? Who is the number 6 that can cover the best so Trent can roam as needed, and also make effective triangles with darting runs and quick passes to get Trent up the field for one of his signature crosses along the 6 yard box or the penalty spot? (Endo? McAllister?) How can the guys on the opposite wing design their movements so someone is always showing up at the spot of the cross and someone else is always wide to pick up the ball in case its a full side to side cross?

Which attacking midfielders and center forwards and wingers are best at drawing fouls around the box? Can Trent start taking PKs rather than Mo?

Building momentum around a player is not always anathema to team success and on the contrary can actually be a great "solidarity builder" and "mentality consolidater."

  2. Ballon D'or, really? Is it weird to me that somebody would choose the solitary underwhelming goal of a Ballon D'or over brining joy and happiness to a whole fanbase. That international title would be everything to me, the happiness from doing that for my family, friends and everyone in England, would never leave me.

  3. He's been a Liverpool fan since a boy but he only wants to win honours for himself, not the team. He can go as far as im concerned. We can get a rb that actually wants to defend and that doesnt stroll around hitting 1 amazing pass out of about 37 attempts.

  4. Everybody ignoring the point a scouser playing for Liverpool, is more concerned about individual awards than the club winning another premier league or champions league.
    GET RID OF HIM!

  5. If he leaves Liverpool he does so having helped the team win everything unlike McManaman and Owen. The lad wants to see where his potential can take him and if it's Madrid and the Ballon D'or then all the best to him.

  6. Liverpool gave you the chance to be where you are now be
grateful and don't think you are madrid. If you think you are good stand up to the challenge of your era when you are the captain of lfc. Any player who leaves liverpool fc without the blessing of the club you are doomed and you know it. If you want to leave madrid must pay through their noses. Just sign a new contract and madrid should pay heavy not free transfer
