This fails to mention the fact that Newcastle had so many injuries the year of the CL, and with being denied the ability to invest sufficiently were forced to rely on a bench made up of kids and goalkeepers.
The only failure was in rules that prevented owners from bringing the squad up to the competitive level of their opponents.

How can we expect more when spending rules were put in place to make sure we couldn`t compete. 5 days after we were taken over. It isn`t just us though Villa are pushing and so are others.
If you define “crashing out” as being unlucky against PSG away which was never a handball and being in a group where two of the 4 teams rended up in the semi finals which didn’t come from as far back in development as us then I’ll happily accept it.

It's really unfair that they brought down the axe on the legal stuff with Newcastle and has blunted their potential considerably. Also, they got Tonali and then couldn't use him or integrate an important piece to the planned change and he just showed up with a performance they are expecting on a regular basis for him.
Ibr this has to be the season where they win a trophy and Howe is under massive pressure to deliver a Fa Cup or A Carabao Cup

Not true to say Newcastle "crashed out" of their Champions league group. They got unlucky with a dodgy hand ball penalty against PSG. Bad call. They hit the post twice vs Dortmund at home. Those points in those two games were costly. They would have advanced.
