  1. That shouldn’t have been a red for RSL. Piol is just trying to shield the ball, and the Dallas player kicks into his studs. There’s no real force from Piol—the impact comes from the kick. A yellow? Sure. But why does VAR always have to escalate to red? Why not let refs give a yellow instead? Premier League does this way better

  2. Whitecaps deserve a pen vs chicago. That shove is no attempt on the ball, and endangered the safety of 2 players, (his keeper, too)

I think if the player stayed down and required treatment, the VAR would have more time to realize it met the threshhold and request review.

The vancouver kid just got up and brushed his jersey off, lol, i dont even know how he was concious.

  3. The Dallas penalty was as soft as they come. Acosta got a slight tug to the shoulder, you see a pause, then he flops to the ground quite pathetically. Should've been a yellow to Acosta not a pen.

  4. I don’t like the precedent being set by refs this season that any contact is enough for a penalty. From hands sitting on the shoulder to slight contact with the player embellishing it. If it’s not a foul at mid field why is it a foul in the box? A penalty is a very harsh punishment especially when a good chunk of these plays would not lead to a goal. It’s making the game look disgraceful with everyone going down under no contact, and this will harm the growth of the game in America as one of the biggest complaints people have are players diving around after no/minuscule contact. Honestly hurts to watch from the perspective of a fan of both the team that gets the penalty and the one that doesn’t. This needs to change

  5. That first one is exactly why so many people can't stand soccer.

The guy is in on an opportunity but instead of trying to make a good play he just reaches out to kick the defender and then flops crying for a card.

Such a cowardly play that is just so representative of what is wrong with soccer.

The worst kind of people showing kids it's totally cool to be a liar as long as it works out for you in the end.

Shameful and exactly why soccer is a lowest common denominator sport that shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone.

  6. Are you kidding me Weibe!?! The Piol red card is ridiculous. It shouldn't have even been a foul. Ojeda was getting pulled back all of the way down the field before the ball even got to Piol. But then when Piol gets to it, to me, it looks like Piol touches the ball first. How could that be playing the man? Delgado comes in swinging and puts his own leg underneath where Piol is stepping (after Piol touches the ball). Have you ever reached your leg out a good distance to get to a ball? Your foot is going to naturally be off the ground. It's unfortunate how Delgados leg comes in underneath Piol's foot, but this is on Delgado. Piol can't be held responsible for how Delgado comes in at the ball!

  7. Ok, I want to be mad about the RSL red but he's spot on. It was the right call. But he fails to acknowledge the ref's horrendous control of the game and terrible calls. He failed miserably and the play should have been called dead before the red and the foul came after the whistle meaning the play was dead. Huge fail all around.
Now the call where he says that a red wasn't deserved for him trying to gain position to play the ball is bull crao and a pathetic take. Wake up! He has the player wrapped up. He is not making an attempt at the ball. That is red all flippin' day!

  8. Two weeks in row now TFC has been hard done by the MLS refs. They have a hard enough time beating the other team but throwing in the MLS ref's will that's impossible.

  9. Can we please, please, please stop rewarding players with PK attempts who are obviously diving. It ruins the sport. I try so hard to get people into soccer and watch the games with me but they always say the same thing. The dramatic diving and rolling around, clutching their face etc. is so damn annoying. They act like a bunch of pussies and it’s embarrassing. Not only does it make the game less fun to watch, it’s just simply cheating. I wish commentators would just call it out. Stop condoning it. It’s not the dark arts. It’s nonsense and it doesn’t belong in the sport!

  10. What Chicago's Gutman did, pushing a player into a rushing goalie at that speed should be a red. It's like boarding in hockey. Dangerous and should be addressed in the rules.

  11. Contact does not automatically equal a foul. In the first clip you can see the contact on his leg doesn't effect his ability to run at all, it's only after he steps that he decides to go down. That is never a penalty for me.

  12. Disagree with the Piol red. You stopped the play about 2 frames too late. If you stop it around the time you see the Dallas player make contact with the ball, Piol is millimeters away from getting that ball, the Dallas player is just a fraction of a millisecond quicker. It wasn’t studs up high or straight leg as you tried to claim. And, It didn’t endanger the safety of the Dallas player. Piol got him with his toe, not his entire foot, and he didn’t follow through forcefully. I have no doubt that the challenge hurt, but the risk of a serious or even a minor injury coming from that challenge is practically zero. It was a late challenge, that’s it. A yellow would’ve been enough.

  13. Probably unpopular opinion. I think pretty much all of these second yellows are deserved. I realize people don't like it when players get sent off but I've always said if its a yellow at the 20th minute it should be a yellow in the 70th minute if it's the exact same offense. They're professionals. They have to learn to control emotions and not be allowed to walk all over those officiating a match to keep it safe for everyone. That penalty given in the first clip was almost criminal and should have been a yellow for a dive.

  14. To me it looks like the SJ attacker tries to spin the defender but loses his balance and that causes him to go down, not the light holding.

  15. The first incident was almost identical to the France/Argentina WC final when Thuram got a yellow card for diving for throwing his leg back in a very similar position

  16. In regards to the last clip, It should've been a penalty to Chicago. I'm biased of course, being a Whitecaps fan, but there was no need for that shove when his keeper was gonna get it anyways imo.

  17. DOGSO….You're up 4-0 in the 73'. If you foul there, you deserve a red. Also I don't think DOGSO-R is in question. I think we'll see that from PRO on their segment. The defender didn't have any position. He started to run through the attacker's back and then grabbed his shoulder to pull him around. He ends up goal side, but that's only because of the foul.

There is a question about location though as the contact started outside the penalty area.

  18. Don't be soft on these delaying the restart, Andrew. They are a point of emphasis and a clear method of dissent. You're not doing the referees any favors, at any level, by saying this is okay. It's not about managing one particular game. It's about putting the foot down and not allowing this immature form of protest and delay by grabbing or kicking the ball.

Specifically, Carballo didn't get the first yellow for the foul. It was for delaying the restart. You can see the timing of the referee's reaction and first card. He picked the ball up on purpose and kept it from the attacker. Yeah, it was just a couple seconds, but I have a big feeling this wasn't isolated. Carballo was just stupid all around.

And then later Andrew even mentions Lowen's 2nd yellow is valid and by the book. It's also a point of emphasis that the players know the referee is going to be punishing. Don't be soft of these guys.
