I’ve coached soccer for 20 years now in high school, club, college, and now USL1. The best quote I’ve heard from someone is “It’s not about X’s and O’s, it’s about Jimmy’s and Joe’s”. Meaning, if you don’t have the talent, the tactics won’t matter.
Alonso’s leverkusen used this formation beautifully last season. Pacey wingbacks are needed along with atleast one commanding defensive mid. Last year frimpong and grimaldo along with xhaka in centre was the main reason bayer won the league

It becomes a formation with pointless possession. Stuck at the back and can’t even get into the final third. 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 will destroy this 3-5-2.
a 3-5-2 is very effective when you play with a sweeper who comes across to close down the opposition winger and stands them up/clears the ball out of play to allow the rest of the team to reset into position. This is purely from a defensive perspective though.

Kyle Walker has to be amongst the most influential players if not the most influential player throughout City's dominance. His wicked pace activates the numercal advantage they can hold in the midfield. He is not a right back, he is a RCB with 99 pace
But can’t the left and right midfielder go deeper though
italian defenders are definitly key to this. You cant really put a normal cb in this formation

If you play with two 6s and instruct one of them to drop into the back line in defense you now have a back 4 with less running for the wingbacks

I think this should be the formation for England considering their lack of LBs, that way Saka can go and the left and be happy and TAA on the right, Foden and Palmer up front, and you've got enough room in the middle still for Rice, Gordon and Mainoo. My god we'd actually be an exciting team to watch

This has been the secret sauce of each of our five World Cup wins however, only our 1994 and 2002 squads played static wingers since our forwards were also static but the 1958, 1962 and 1970 played a quasi-Total Football with the forwards coming back to link play essentially creating a two-man overload out wide.

I think thats why Bastoni is so critical for inter. He fills out the left CB position extremely nice so that Gosens or Dimarco can go forward a lot while Dumfries on the right always stays a little behind.
