  1. Fantastic keeper!

That being said, anyone saying he re-invented goalkeeping clearly has never heard of Rene Higuita (the goalkeeper who did the scorpion kick save you've undoubtedly seen the highlight of), Jorge Campos, Jose Luis Chilavert, and Rogerio Ceni. These players not only famously displayed exceptional ball skills for a goalkeeper – they each scored >40 goals in their careers!

Yes, Higuita scored 41 goals in his career. Campos scored 46. Chilavert scored 67 – and currently holds the record for most international goals by a goalkeeper and is the only goalkeeper who has ever scored a hat trick at the pro-level – and Ceni scored an astounding 131 goals in his career!

And oh, also, the sweeper keeper had already been invented long before any of those players (let alone Neuer) – by Lev Yashin (whom the Lev Yashin award – given to the best goalkeeper each year – is named after). He's the one who invented everything about modern goalkeeping, from the sweeper keeper role, to coming off his line to intercept crosses, to even goalkeeper distribution. All of that was invented by Yashin!

Neuer is a great generational talent, but please don't discredit the great talents who came before him by not giving them credit for providing the blueprint he's following!

  2. Neuer's overall skill set is all-time great.
While some keepers might excel in specific areas, no one is a more complete, well-rounded goalkeeper than he is.
He's one of the rare defenders whose very presence is a tactic, and even more so as a keeper.

  3. People said he reinvented and laid foundation for modern goalkeeper.

But nothing modern goalkeepers exactly do like what he do. He is an exceptional. The true GOATkeeper.
