Before David de Gea, there was one man who defined Manchester United’s goalkeeping era: Edwin van der Sar.

Van der Sar’s remarkable Premier League journey began at Fulham, where he impressed enough to earn a move to Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of the 2005/06 season. What followed was an extraordinary spell at Old Trafford, delivering four Premier League titles, a Premier League Golden Glove, and a historic UEFA Champions League triumph.

Here are 10 minutes that showcase his brilliance.

  1. I remember seeing him play for Holland and thinking, what an amazing GK I wonder where he plays….

    …Fullham!

I simply didn't understand why he didn't play in a bigger club and for 4 years every time United played against him I just didn't understand why they didn't sign him. I was extremely happy we bought him, but I still don't get why it took so long.

  2. This video also deserved to mention his other record – 14 consecutive clean sheets in 08/09 season, which remains unbeaten to this day even 18 years later. King 👑

  3. Senne Lammens in goal for Man United at the moment is pretty much a return to the Van Der Sar days. A goalkeeper who is "quiet" yet reliable and can be counted upon.

  4. This man is not only a world class but a legendary goalkeeper not only for his premier league era but for manchester united after the legendary peter schemichael where he won 4 premier league titles and to top it up the uefa champions league in 2008…
