The reason some goalkeepers lay down is because it allows you to look around for potential passes without the possibility of the referee telling you that you have to pass.
It used to be a rule, that you could only have the ball in your hand for 6 seconds (i think) now its up to the ref.

For over 60 minutes Bayern were dominating and were 4-0 up, but the final 30 minutes Kiel scored 3 unanswered goals and if there had been another few minutes they might have gotten a point or even three.
