⚡ Overlapping Finishing Drill | Combination Play & Finishing

⚡ Overlapping Finishing Drill | Combination Play & Finishing

A sharp, game-realistic practice to develop overlapping runs, timing, and finishing under pressure.

Setup:
Use a full-size goal with a goalkeeper.
Place two cones just outside the 6-yard box (left & right).
Place two angled cones 8–10 yards outside the box (wide positions).
Two players start on either side at the wide cones.
How It Works:
The ball begins with one wide player.
They control, receive, and dribble towards their inside cone.
At the same time, the other wide player makes an overlapping run around them.
The ball carrier passes into the overlapping runner, then makes a forward run into the box.
The overlapping player delivers a pass (cross/layoff) into the runner’s path for a quick finish on goal.
Reset and repeat with roles switching.
Coaching Focus:
✅ Timing of overlaps — go at the right moment
✅ Crisp, well-weighted passes in stride
✅ Communication between players (eye contact & triggers)
✅ Sharp finishing inside the box
✅ Encourage game speed — replicate match situations

📌 A great attacking drill to work on wide combinations and striker movement in the box.
