Both the 2. Bundesliga and the EFL Championship are often described as some of the MOST EXCITING leagues in the world 🤩 We recently made a video on whether Bundesliga is BETTER than Premier League – we pretty much agreed that fan atmosphere and involvement is better in Germany, whereas the quality on the pitch (because of the sheer wealth) swings more towards the Premier League. Similar pros & cons apply to the 2nd division in each country, for example it’s great watching German Football with a pint of beer, as we’re unable to in England. The relegation/promotion playoff in both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga isn’t very popular amongst German football fans. The Championship playoff final is often described as the most LUCRATIVE in all of football, due to the wealth earned from being in the English Premier League 🏆 What do you guys think ⁉️ Is the EFL Championship better or the 2. Bundesliga ⁉️ Get involved in the comments section below 👍🏽 Auf wiedersehen 🇩🇪🏴

One point I missed off my notes is the fact that Germany is bigger than England yet has fewer clubs so naturally those clubs will be better supported 😊👍🏾 (somebody else has mentioned that in the comments) …It’s the LAW on YouTube to make pre-season predictions so i have no choice but to share some of mine tomorrow 😈
My friend was a Lincoln city supporter and he also had a massive love for fc Schalke and used to go quite a lot. He sadly passed away two years ago. Great channel and loving the Geman football coverage
Championship League is better than Bundesliga 😄
German leagues and their football culture is awesome. I went for a 2nd Bundesliga game with Nurnberg vs St Pauli. I can't speak German, I am only 1.95 m tall, Indian fella, but was so accepted in the stadium despite trying to be a neutral. Had beer and some currywurst with the Nurnberg supporters and later took pics with some St Pauli supporters after the match. Lovely ppl and lovely atmosphere. I understand why Germany won 4 world cups and is a true football nation. They got everything right in football even at the lower leagues
The difference between Bundesliga 2 and the Championship is the Championship is more physical and teams play more long balls. Bundesliga 2 is more tactical and the passing is better. Look at the German forward Robert Glatzel. He has scored 65 goals in 100 games for Hamburger SV, yet only managed 10 goals in 57 games for Championship Cardiff City. He is a player who likes the ball at his feet, whereas in the Championship having a brute up front to cause problems to defenders with their strength and presense, and who enjoy a battle has been the way many teams go. The same is true for certain midfielders as well. Players like Glatzel, who are good with the ball at their feet and possess a catalogue of skills, often struggle with the physical aspect of games in the Championship.
I was looking forward to Tim Walters interesting risk and reward attacking style of football in the Championship this year, but 3 games in it's still work in progress. Tim Walter is finding out first hand It's hard to break down Championship teams that allow you to have possession, whilst they are playing a high-intensity press in midfield, and engage in high physicality. In fairness, the players at his disposal at Hamburger SV had more technical ability than most of the players he currently has in his squad and were all coached to his playing philosophy over a period of 2-3 years. It is goals that win games. Boasting high possession means nothing in the Championship when your team gets bullied in midfield and lacks efficeicny and conviction going forward. I beleive the latter two were also a problem when he managed Hamburger SV.
If you count champions from the 1920's, you should also regard the champions from the 2nd Bundesliga before 1963. For example Schalke was 7 times champion between 1934 and 1958, Nürnberg 9 times (1 time in Bundesliga), Hertha 2 times, even Fürth won at least 2 titles…
16:00 no, we don’t prefer ANY relegation playoff system. We don’t need relegation playoffs. Nobody ever asked for relegation playoffs, it’s just a marketing stunt.
When you finish 16th you should be relegated and not be able to save your ass against the 3rd place of the 2nd Bundesliga
13:18 if You Take England back to the 1920, you have to take Bundesliga back to those times, as well.
Schalke won the league 7 times, Nuremberg 9 times. 🤷🏼♂️
Take a look at the all time table of German Football. The team with the 2nd most league wins is Nürnberg, just behind Bayern München
You have to go to a home game of HSV, you will be 100% convinced
Could I just turn up at an english stadium Saturday lunchtime and buy a ticket …? I think no, but I can in Hamburg, no problem…
I really love the appreciation of our football.
But yall repeat the same mistake here as back home. Overhype freaking everything. Its a great league, thats it.
Leeds owners are wanting to expand Elland Rd to 55.000. And based on season ticket waiting lists i think they would in the championship if there not in there long term for sure.
I think both second divisions have their pros and cons.
I believe that the absolute top end of the championship is capable of playing better football – we've seen a group of friendlies being played by Leeds this season, they did really well against the 2. Bundesliga teams. However, I think that the 2. Bundesliga is closer together thanks to less teams and stuff – I think the championship ends up having a lot of dead games, those that don't matter at all any longer. 2. Bundesliga fan support is absolutely unbeatable, though. I do agree that promotion playoffs are a way better system than relegation playoffs as they are in germany.
61.000 average atandance in the second league is crazy 🤯
There used to be 20 teams in each Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga up until late 80s early 90s or so
Eintracht Braunschweig 1967 German 1.Bundesliga Champion and 1.FC Nürnberg 1968 1.Bundesliga Champion .
I think that Bundesliga must have 20 football teams and not only 18. Germany is a big country with many big cities. There are a lot of teams like HSV, Schalke, Koeln, Nuernberg with big fanbase . Bundesliga must have 20 teams.
It is more exciting than the oil money Premier League
This season, with Hamburg, Cologne, Schalke, Hertha, Düsseldorf, Kaiserslautern, Nürnberg, 2nd Bundesliga will have 4th best attendance of all European football leagues.
Tinpot foreign league compared with the utterly bonkers Champ
Since German football fans care about fan / club culture and the history of the sport actually 99% I guess don’t support any type of relegation/ playoff system. 3 teams should go up and 3 down. Those extra matches are only for money reasons and they aren’t needed or fair. A full season should decide on which league you play and not 2 games or even a penalty shootout
what you might not know is that football championships were also played in Germany before 1963 … so if you do it with England, you also could do it with Germany. Thats also the times where clubs like Schalke, Kaiserslautern, Köln or Nürnberg DOMINATED german football
I'd pick the German promotion/relegation over the English promotion. As a fan its different for me to see an 2nd tier club fighting other 2nd tier clubs for promotion, which they do all season long in England. But to have seen Union Berlin sercuring their first promotion to the Bundesliga by beatig Bundesliga giants VfB Stuttgart in a promotion/relegation battle feels quite like a more massive achievement and therefor give me more goosebumps.
Ry you forgot the East german first divison called "Oberliga"! The 1. FC Magdeburg won 3 times the Championship, 7 times the East german Cup called FDGB Cup and as the only ONE east German Club, ever and Forever, the European Cup against AC Milan in 1974 in Rotterdam with just local player. Even Maradonna was playing against us in our old stadion with Barca. BWG from Magdeburg 💙🤍🤘🏼
Btw: Last season Schalke lost in Magdeburg 3:0 and Hertha 6:4. 🤫
Fan Culture yes, Player Quality no
Personally I would prefere no playoffs at all, extend 1st 3rd devision to 20 teams, last three down first three up and done. One more team is garantued to benefit from higher earnings even if just for one season but with good management the money isn´t lost hugely helping clubs with a long term plan. For many clubs finances aren´t good and when you relegate to 1st devision it´s extremly hard to compete with the money of the other clubs.
Best trikot my friend 💙🤍💯
good video. championship needs to be cut down to 20 teams. same for league one. would improve the quality and increase average gates.
the big quality gap in uk is between premier league and championship.
in germany the quality gap is between 2 liga and 3 liga. english league one is much stronger than 3 liga in germany.
championship teams play 2 cup competitions compared to one in germany.
In the german 2nd league are playing 13 german champions, in the first only nine.
Five of the nine big stadiums at the EURO was 2nd league stadiums
(Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen)
At some matchdays have the 2nd league more spectators than the first .
2:45 Elversberg plays out of a town with only 13000 inhabitants of which almost 9000 go to games as opposed to Rotherham’s 70000
I personally think that the 2. Bundesliga is better because of the fallen giants
really agree, that the english play-offs are much better than our relegation/promotion-system! By the way, love your jersey, pretty decent! HAHOHE Hertha BSC 🙂
Nice kit!
Been following German fussball since attending my first game there whilst on holiday in 2015. First game was at 1FC Kaiserslautern (unfortunately a 0-2 home defeat to Arminia Bielefeld). I now go approx once every 2-3 seasons, although last season saw me make 2 trips as Lautern made it to the Pokal Final, which I wasn't going to miss. Have seen other teams as well, at Regionalliga and Oberliga levels. You should try doing a feature comparing them with our Non-League pyramid.
In total, the german 2. Division clubs have won more league titels than the first league clubs, bayern münchen not included.
I like to hear u talking and i subbed. Greetings from Bremen.
Watch a Game in Kaiserslautern from the Club 1.FC Kaiserslautern The Red Devils from Betzenberg!
