Of the 66 games played between the teams at this round the hosts have won 38 and lost just 13, with the remaining matches drawn. Interestingly, however, the last time these teams met at this ground, the Rovers won 2-1; that was a Premiership encounter in September 2008. The FA Cup Final played at Wembley Stadium on May 12th 1979, was between Arsenal and Manchester United. After Arsenal had taken a comfortable 2-0 lead in the game the result seemed to be inevitable, and Arsenal were coasting to victory. The 1953 FA Cup Final was played between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers, the match was played at Wembley Stadium on the 2nd May 1953 and was possibly one of the greatest ever Cup Finals. The game witnessed seven goals, the first ever Wembley FA Cup Final hat-trick and the greatest comeback in FA Cup Final history. A 38 Year old Stanley Matthews played for Blackpool that day and the Final is often referred to as the ‘Matthews’ Final.

As far as 1966 is concerned, English football will probably be best remembered as the year that England won the World Cup, but this year was also the scene for one of the greatest FA (Football Association) Cup finals. The FA Cup final was between Everton and Sheffield Wednesday and was played at Wembley Stadium on 14th May 1966 and was probably one of the greatest FA Cup final comebacks in the history of the competition.

Villa lost a bit of steam early in the season following Martin O’Neill’s resignation as manager and the uncertainty ahead of Houllier’s appointment. It’s Premier League match time at the Eastlands, when Manchester City host Manchester United in a local derby on Wednesday, November 10. City will enjoy home advantage in a crucial game that could have a bearing on which team challenges Chelsea at the top of the table. Chelsea’s lead over second-placed United has been reduced to two points following Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over the Stamford Bridge squad on Sunday. City’s win over Albion has brought the Eastlanders level on 20 points with Arsenal, with the Gunners ahead in third place owing to a better goal difference.
