After a tight first half with neither side scoring a goal, Sevilla broke the tie in the 56’ with a Luuk de Jong goal. After a wonderfully played ball down the far left side to Marcos Acuña, he crossed it right into the box directly to the feet of de Jong who just had to finish the job and send it home. It propelled Sevilla to a 1-0 lead and from there they kept threatening. In the 66’ they de Jong had an opportunity for his brace, however the Rennes keeper denied de Jong’s perfect header keeping Rennes alive.
Rennes would not be able to put together a true offensive threat for the rest of the second half and dropped a tough fought match to Sevilla 1-0.
