Jason Demetriou has been sacked as the South Sydney Rabbitohs coach.
The club opted to terminate his coaching contract just eight rounds into the 2024 NRL season.
His departure follows back-to-back losses for the club.
“The Board and management feel that now is the time to make a change to the leadership of our football program in terms of the head coaching role,” Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said in a statement.
“There is no doubting Jason’s work ethic or his drive for success, but unfortunately, that success has not been forthcoming over the past 12 months.”
Assistant Coach Ben Hornby is set to take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
However, speculation is growing that former Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett could be returning to the club as his contact with the Dolphins concludes at the end of this year.
