  1. There are two meanings of choke in English. One is the literal blockage of air in your throat, and the other is the sports euphemism of "choke" or "choking up" which is the result of pressure from nervousness and anxiety leading you to forget your place or role in what you are doing. Ex. You are doing a speech in front of an audience and you choke up.

    There is also a third term of "choking up" which is when somebody gets so emotional and starts to cry. Ex. "That scene in that movie had me choking up."

    Verdict: I don't blame Mr. Ranieri for not knowing what was meant there.
    Not just Ranieri but the whole team doesn't know the meaning(s) of choking in this season!
