The highlights of the last Quarterfinals match between United States and Colombia are here! 🙌
Three goals in the first half earned the United States a 3-0 triumph over Colombia in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup on Sunday night at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
After suffering a defeat to Mexico in their group stage finale, the U.S. bounced back in style to secure passage to the semifinals where they will face North American rivals Canada on Wednesday.
There was end-to-end action to start the match and a lapse from the Colombian defense allowed the U.S. to take an early lead.
Alex Morgan pounced on a soft back pass and was brought down in the area for a penalty. Lindsey Horan stepped up to take the spot kick and calmly converted for a 1-0 lead in the 13’.
The U.S. were riding a wave of confidence and doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 22’ when Jenna Nighswonger latched onto a flicked-on header from Morgan and hammered a shot into net.
Colombia looked to respond, and Linda Caicedo served up a warning shot in the 32’ with a buzzing right-footed shot that GK Alyssa Naeher managed to parry away. That was followed by Naeher tipping away an Ilana Izquierdo shot that was goal-bound.
The U.S. were being stretched by the Colombian attack but got a big lift right before halftime when Trinity Rodman crossed into Jaedyn Shaw, who swept into net for a 3-0 advantage.
Horan almost snuck in her second of the night as well right before halftime, as a free kick rang off the post.
The second half saw the U.S. remain on the front foot and control the tempo, while snuffing out any foray forward from the Colombian attack.
In the final minutes, the U.S. closed things out with aplomb to punch their ticket to the tournament’s final four.
