Xavi lifted the Champions League trophy at the Olympiastadion, Berlin on Saturday night to top off what has been a truly remarkable campaign for the Catalan club. Luis Enrique and his team won the title the hard way, beating the champions of all of Europe’s biggest leagues en route.
In the group stages, they faced the champions of Holland, France and Cyprus, namely Ajax, PSG and APOEL. First up in the knockout stage were Premiership champions Manchester City, who Barça beat 3-1 on aggregate. In the quarter finals they met PSG once again, putting the Ligue 1 title holders out to the tune of a 5-1 aggregate victory. The semi-finals matched them with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, and a tremendous display saw them through to the final, where Serie A champions Juventus awaited. The Italians were beaten 3-1 in Berlin, and a historic treble was completed. What a season!
