United States couldn't make it out of a group stage in a World Cup, not to mention the cuckold kneeling during the anthem.
If I'm Berhalter and I liked what I saw from Moore, Busio, Williamson, and Gioacchini, I may be inclined to start them in the match against Martinique not to intimidate them (on the contrary, non of those guys seemed intimated by the moment), but to give this team an energy and confidence to come out of the group stage. I was surprised that Hoppe didn't see any playing time.
The energy of the USMNT faltered for much of the match between the time of the goal and when the subs came on. That's when we saw them come back to life. Berhalter needs to light a fire under butts to get them to play with a passion that is deserving of them being called up for the national team.

This US squad in this Gold Cup is a mix of our B & C teams. The coach is using this tournament to analyze squad depth under pressure. He is also looking to avoid key injuries with WC Qualifying around the corner. At the same time, many of our A team starters and backups are beginning preparation for their club seasons, with several fighting for starting spots. The coaching staff likely views this as vital to those players' overall development. I'm excited to see if this Gold Cup team can actually progress to the finals. That would be an awesome sign for team depth, IMO.

They need to fire Greg Berhalter if the US wants to make it to the next world because the way they’re going and playing I don’t see them making it through the hex even with the European based players because this coach is clueless with tactics and deployment of players to have them be effective in a game so it not going to matter who he calls up the same disappointing results is going to happen.
