Freddy didn't even look for a foul on his fall. Why wouldn't the ref just let play continue? It's a no call. Players fall down on non-contact all the time, with no calls for simulation. Silly, silly by the ref.

It was an obvious trip, and not Adu's fault at all. However I don't think it is fair to blame the ref. The first time I saw it, I thought it was a flop which deserves a card, only after watching it did I realize it was a trip.
I'll never understand Adu. On the surface he looks like that technical wizard that the United States has been waiting for on the national team. Maybe he's starting to get it all together, because we could always use more creativity in the national side (Klinsmann is helping with that, and so is a now-crowded mid-field set up).

Obvious mistake by ref. You can tell by the reaction of the defenders that Adu didn't just dive. Dax made a wild hack, which missed but caused Adu to trip himself up, and then minor contact with the 2nd defender made Adu fall down. This ref would have to yellow card every player that falls down in the box on corners kicks, breakaways, etc. to be consistent.
no jackass, he didn't immediately get up because the whistle blew immediately after he fell down.
Hopefully this gets Adu going. I don't know if he should have been carded the second time. As others have mention, if the official thought he dove, just play on. But officials have to feed their own egos sometimes and make a name for themselves.

There are two sides to this. For it, diving is ruining football. the MLS is not known for diving, and refs have a zero tolerance policy, which is good. However, not giving him the call would have been sufficient. You've all seen HORRIBLE dives that go without consequence in La Liga and the BPL.
If you wanted to get up he would have immediately done so. He was waiting for a penalty.
As someone who hates the amount of diving in Soccer I have to say…that's embarrassing for the ref. The defender's foot was pretty clearly intent on making contact, and whether Adu moved his foot out of the way of contact and then tripped or whether he was clipped…there is no third option. I don't understand why the ref chose to see a third option.
Thats what you get for diving..hopefully he learns his lesson
