So this is about the 1000th time i've seen an example of why soccer is a flawed sport. How does a player get sent of the pitch for that? The rules are ridiculous and the sport will never be taken seriously in the US for as long as the sport can't outline reasonable rules around fouls, cards and penalties…
The highlights don't show the penalty that wasn't called against Mexico. Apparently tugging on a jersey isn't a foul now.

Galant performance by Canada, but the same issues remain: composure and decision-making in the final third. There’s plenty of natural talent among South American players, but some of the antics and lack of sportsmanship are disappointing to watch. Sadly, good sportsmanship seems to be rapidly disappearing from the game.

Did either of those go to review? His arm was up, but clearly not intentional, and the dive was a dive. Every time a player who dives like that justifies the next player trying to do it. The sport shouldn't be about acting skills. And It certainly looked like the defender touched the ball first to make it go out of bounds on the penalty. Too hard to tell from the highlight video, but it looked clean to me, like he touched the ball first and then contact with the player which is legal. Could be a penalty, too hard to tell without review.
