This game mattered more to France than England. It was Deschamps' farewell after 14 years, while England could easily have treated it like a dead rubber after Argentina. Instead, they responded with courage and character.
Most people expected France to win. Instead, England won 6–4 in the highest-scoring World Cup match since 1958. If Tuchel learned anything from the semi-final, it showed today. A brilliant response and a great way to finish the tournament.
