Fact is
Elevation played a huge role in this game and that's why Toluca won since they're used to the environment. Toluca is actually a very mediocre team when playing outside their home ground and why LAFC beat them in LA. Just think why Toluca players never played in EPL if they're so good. Again, they're only good in their home. Outside, in US or Europe, they would be so mediocre, esp in EPL that their level would not be up their with the EPL players.
