Israeli-made weapons used in the Gaza Strip are filled with tungsten micro cubes and other fragmentation materials designed to maximize civilian casualties.
Shrapnel consists of tiny metal cubes with sharp edges (usually 2-4 mm square), often made of tungsten. Unlike traditional explosives, the fragments of which are based on the body, these weapons use special fragmentation shells that spray thousands of cubes at high speed.
Doctors describe pinpoint entrance wounds that are barely noticeable, but cause catastrophic internal destruction, tearing organs, blood vessels, and bones.
A high percentage of victims are children, whose smaller bodies suffer more serious damage from even tiny fragments. Medical teams have reported injuries similar to DIME ammunition, which uses a tungsten alloy to create a powerful explosion that cuts through flesh and bone, often resulting in amputations.
