Ask Arteta why he’s finally DROPPED Rice from the Creative Number8, and instead pushed Zubimendi to great effect into the number8 role.

But the opposite is true in the final 3rd, there are SO MANY things Zubimendi does in the Final 3rd OFFENSIVELY CREATIVELY IMAGINATIVELY, that Declan Rice can’t do.
What you’re basically seeing recently is Arteta dropping Rice from the CREATIVE responsibilities of a no8 because it has failed! Our wide and no9 attackers haven’t scored for over 10 games in Open Play!
This is what I’ve said for a long time; Arteta’s realized that Arsenal is POOR CREATIVELY in open play against DEEPBLOCKS. He’s also realized it is caused by his persistence with Declan Rice in a CREATIVE no8…it has failed badly! It has killed Odegaard’s creativity because teams ignore Rice in the final 3rd, they know he’s a sideways backwards passer under little pressure, so they DOUBLE UP Odegaard instead, cutting his relationship with Saka and stifling our Central Creativity altogether. Declan Rice is a passenger in the final 3rd OFFENSIVELY CREATIVELY.
DM and inverted RB are the only two best positions for Declan Rice. Now that he’s BEEN OVERHYPED, Arteta’s avoiding using him more there, but he knows it, and has experimented with it briefly…for a reason.
Our wingers have gone more than 10 games without scoring because of trying to play Odegaard next to Rice in the no8 & 10 roles.
Dropping Rice to DM and Zubimendi going up next to Odegaard pairs Two HIGHLY IMAGINATIVE CREATIVE players together from the start!
