Rafa Benitez is a football professor. It was not appreciated in Naples, but it brought a series of top players who have been (and still are) of the columns of the team: Higuain, Callejon, Mertens, Jorginho, Raul Albiol, Ghoulam, Koulibaly, Reina. He won the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup and without that shameful refereeing against Dnipro he would have won the Europa League too.
Finishing 10th and 13th with that Newcastle side without spending a dime is one of the biggest achievement from a manager ever.

Years back at Newcastle, as I am a Toon fan (yes it is not much fun). I re-call recently on Steve Wraith's Youtube Keith Gillespie said Keegan had a no swearing policy from his players in the dressing room during his talks. It is from a diferent era but it wasn't because he was soft or anything. It's to make sure the players can't use aggressive language to get at him. People swear to add impact to what they are saying. So banning that meant the players kept quieter. Little things like that eh. I like the way Sky does these shows, let's these guys really talk and even have a manager as a pundit who talks about his time in that role. Very interesting! It's not an exact science is it. But it makes great tv when they can discuss as they would on the job. Sure they know it anyway. Keep it up and Carra lad, let the man speak!
Managing is a mix of hardy and tricky social skills and tactics. Harry Redknapp is an example of a socially excellant manager. He is a cockney, old school geezer. Knows a few tricks, knows how to get people on his side. Natural sense of humor (not all the time though). All that comes naturally. I'd wager he ain't bad tactically as well. But that is why there are assitants like a Brian Kidd or a David Platt. Technically minded guys that are not perhaps so good at the tricky business of socially being a boss. Not easy because in the old days society in general and hence footballers were more submissive. Noawadays you have people who can be very loud and aggressive, but not in a good way. Just in a kind of annoying way. However most good teams the louder lads use their strong personalities to constructively criticie. Well let's face it not always constructive, sometimes mean. But I think Roy Keane's or Viera's are very useful. You need leaders in the side as well as the coaches.. If a gaffer can asert himself and has a technical genius alongside him. Or better still is that way himself… I think he'll do well. Foreign managers are fine, but they do need to know English in my view. Pochettino when he first got here, having to learn the language. But Rafa (for example) is a great character and people warm to that.
"Football has moved on". Says who? Some moron journalist. Try doing the job. Moved on indeed… our expert says football is now progressive. ok sure.. It's the same game, rules have not changed. Tactics are tactics, but being successful is more than that. You need the team to work with and for you. Should be easy, but there are some jerks within teams with agendas. So that part is hard also and psychology is part of it. Tactics, leave it to the guys who have won things. For example Rafa, ees a fact!

How old is Rafa now . Can’t believe he hasn’t a job tbf .
Rafa did really start to annoy me in the last couple of years at Liverpool. I remember watching MOTD, and being actually angry at some team selections and the things he’d say in interviews when we lost matches we should, on paper, have won. I think he did “crack” slightly. I think the pressure and stress did get to him. I always thought he was a fantastic manager but I think he should have left a little earlier. For his sake.
He’s just one of those guys in football that you have to love if you ask me. Hope he’s well, just realised I don’t know where he is now.
As an Arsenal fan I like this guy. Reminds me of Wenger. I would have liked if he succeded Arsene.

When you listen to Mou,Rafa, Arsene you understand that all the opinions which you have of them is trivial. It just show's how difficult and highly competitive the football world is even a very good manager ends up not winning consistently. As a football fan we know nothing about in football related to tactics, man management and developing players

I think Benitez was the revival of a 13 year decline, Houllier did quite well but the team wasn’t growing back into world beaters, unlike it did with Rafa.

I am not a Liverpool fan. But i cant understand why Benitez didn`t get more time at Liverpool, he won them he CL, FA-Cup and almost won the league title i 2008-09. Just imagine what Benitez could have archived with Liverpool if he had gotten more time?
