Glenn Murray admits he had given up even reaching the Football League as a professional before an opportune pre-season USA tour by Sunderland in 2004.

Murray has scored six goals in his last eight starts in the Premier League for Brighton, with his latest strike sealing a 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday meaning he now has a century of goals for the club.

His rich vein of form has reignited some claims he should receive an England call-up, but the striker revealed his career may have never got off the ground were it not for Mick McCarthy’s intervention 14 years ago.

  1. I’m not an aspiring footballer but i hope I can adopt Glenn’s attitude and apply it to my life to get to where I want to be. Such a humble and successful character.

  2. Super Glenn! I've watched him in both spells at BHA and he has always been quality. In the form of his life at 35 and as fit as i've ever seen him, hopefully he has a few more years left too.

  3. Really solid workman of a striker. Puts a shift in without the ball and puts himself in the right positions when his team has the ball. He can drop in to help build up play, hold it up and draw a foul to relieve pressure when his boys are under siege and most importantly, he scores goals on mere scraps of chances. I wonder how many goals he would have this season if he were playing for a top attacking side like Liverpool, City or Chelsea because he really is lethal.

  4. Playing in the 3rd tier in America at the age of 19 then ends up in the prem. As a 20 year old currently playing in a similar league over in the states, this give me hope. Not sure about the prem but hopefully some success 🙂
