This morning, I played pickup with iShowSpeed in Central Park, and he was not a big fan of my ball… On paper, it’s pretty nice. The Nike Flight comes in 5 different tiers, and mines’ by far the most expensive. For $160, you’d think everyone would like it, but every time I bring it out people say the same thing. This ball is way too hard. For 3 years, I gaslit myself into believe it was all my head. Turns out, Nike actually did this intentionally…
How many of you remember the Adidas Jabulani? It knuckled so badly, brands were forced to switch up their design; including Nike. To get it to fly more consistently, they added technology called “Aeroswift Grooves” onto the outside of the ball, which have the bizarre side-effect of making it much harder. Why? Former football’s like the Teamgeist and Jabulani had a flat, smooth surface. Nike’s new ball has a number of grooves, concentrating the force into a much smaller area, therefore making it feel considerably harder. When I brought it to pickup with Speed literally nobody liked it, so we ended up using a $15 replica ball instead. In some cases, cheaper balls actually work better… #football #soccer #ball #speed #skills #ronaldo #futbol #sports #facts #footballshorts #review #best #goals #cr7
