It was certainly the biggest game in the English Premier League this weekend as Manchester Utd hosted Chelsea, the two teams who have shared the Premiership title over recent years, went head to head at Old Trafford. But it wasn’t just Man United and Chelsea who were keenly awaiting this game and the result. The Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez in particular, will have been hoping United and Chelsea played out a boring 0 – 0 draw after his own team failed to take the initiative the previous day when his side could only manage a poor point against struggling Stoke City.

So, the Champions League draw have been made, and I have to admit one of the most anticipated matches is Inter vs Man Utd. Italian champions vs English champions. I’m an Arsenal fan, so I’m rather happy about it. Man Utd think they are the best, well eat this! Let’s see how you get past Inter.

With the draw for the FA Cup 4th Round pitching my club Everton against our greatest rivals Liverpool and therefore meaning that we will face them twice in a week, I decided that it might be wise to try and explain just why there is such a passionate rivalry between the two clubs. Most clubs have close rivals, some get on but most don’t.

We often think that developing soccer players need to move away from technical skills and start to focus on tactical and conditioning work. True to some extent, but if you study the great soccer players at the top levels you will quickly learn they are masters of technical skills and return to them often.

I don’t care if you are 8 or 38 years old, a funny thing happens when we place a soccer ball on the grass in front of a goal. Something in our mind seems to ‘snap’ and we try and strike the ball as hard as we can. Most of us however don’t realize this actually slows down the soccer ball’s speed.
