Cuba 2, Panama 6

Panama won 6-2 against Cuba to open play in Group A.

The first goal came from the boots of Maritza Escartin in the 12’. Las Canaleras doubled their lead in the 16’ with a conversion from the second penalty spot by Ariadna Abadia.

A collective play left Estefania Salas in front of the Cuban goal area in the 17’, getting the third goal for Panama with a right-footed shot. Abadia got her brace, and the fourth goal for the Central Americans in the 18’, by converting another penalty before the first period ended.

Cuba pulled one back to start the second period, in the 22’, with a left-footed shot from Yarianna Zunzunequi.

Kenia Rangel got one more for Panama count, getting their fifth goal in the 31’.

The Caribbeans scored their second in the 33’ thanks to Katheryn Rodriguez.

Rangel stepped up once again for Panama, getting a brace and the sixth goal for Las Canaleras, in the 36’.

Guatemala 2, Mexico 7

Mexico closed the night with a 7-2 win against hosts Guatemala.

Mexico started off strong, getting its first goal in the 1’, as Rosa Aguilar sent a right-footed shot to the top of the net. Ericka Soto doubled Mexico’s lead in the 5’ from a free kick. Rubi Gomez sent a right-footed shot to the back of the net in the 7’ to get the third goal for Mexico.

Aguilar got her brace in the 18’ to get the fourth goal of the night for the Mexicans. A great collective play allowed Evelyn Gonzalez to shoot with her right foot in the 19’ for a fifth goal for Mexico.

Guatemala kicked off the second period on a high, scoring its first goal of the tournament in the 21’, as Andrea Chajon sent a loose ball to the back of the net. Guatemala closed the gap with a free kick in the 23’ from Grecia Santizo.

Mexico regained a bigger lead in the 31’ through Itzel Cruz, who scored her nation’s sixth goal. Gonzalez earned a brace by scoring the seventh and final Mexican goal in the 35’ to close the day with a victory.
