England 1 Argentina 2 – 1986 World Cup

As the Portsmouth takeover shows no sign of being concluded (the latest stunning development is that Dr Al Fahim is in receipt of the Premier League’s documents regarding the ‘fit and proper persons’ test), I thought I’d continue the World Cup theme I started a couple of weeks ago with the England v Poland game at Mexico ’86. After that game, England despatched Paraguay 3-0 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

2008/09 Draws to a Close

Two major finals brought the 2008/09 season to a close but soccer fans need not worry too much as the European qualification campaign for the 2009/10 Europa League is just about to get away.

Another classic match for you today, from Portsmouth’s famous FA Cup run of 1992. We were eventually to reach the semi final against Liverpool, of course, and were hugely unlucky not to make the final itself.

Popping up on the internet from time to time recently amid the constant Portsmouth takeover speculation, has been the issue of the club’s new kit for next season. Of course, the all blue home kit, created to commemorate our ‘110th anniversary’ (!), can’t be worn next season as we will need another to mark our 111th anniversary. This does mean, though, that it looks likely we will be reverting to red, white, and blue. Hooray!
