Costa Rica 9, Bermuda 1
Costa Rica earned a 9-1 win against Bermuda at Mini Estadio de la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol in Toluca, Mexico.
Bermuda took the lead in the 4’ from a free kick goal by Janiya Sealey. Lucía Paniagua converted from the penalty spot in the 11’ to equalize for Costa Rica.
Daniela Ocampo placed Las Ticas in the lead in the 20’ with a right-footed shot from outside the box. Tiara Ruiz struck from close range in the 28’, and Nubia Medina struck a header inside the penalty area in the 30’ to further Costa Rica’s lead.
An own goal by Ayshalay Simons in the 45+2’ gave the Central Americans a 5-1 lead prior to halftime.
Ocampo and Medina converted for their braces in the 48’ and 52’, respectively, before Medina would complete her hat-trick in the 72’. Michelle Murillo scored in the 90+3’ to put a bow on the victory.
Costa Rica currently leads among second place teams and awaits the result of the Puerto Rico-Canada match on Sunday. An outright winner would qualify Las Ticas to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2025, but a draw would eliminate it and send both top teams from Group B.
